Just been scanning through this one this morning...... hitting the highlights....and while it isn't a Cb shop... it is CB related..... so I thought you might get a kick....

Back in the very late 70's....maybe 78-79....
I had just gotten out of electronics school, taken my job at NASA JSC, earning a little cash.... and experimenting with some audio projects in my off time.

Ran across a project that required a 4136 quad op amp IC. I had never used one before..... but the catalog said that Radio Shack HAD THEM!!!!! EXCITED I WAS!!!!!!

So, one day on lunch I ate at a Wendy's in front of the Radio Shack near the space center..... then went into good old R/S.

As I was walking to the back.....a gentleman behind the counter looked up as I passed.... "anything I can help you with?"

I said, " I'm just looking for your linear ICs"

The smile.....went away. The face..... twinges of red....
IN a slow very deliberate voice.... he said....

"WE DON'T SELL LINEARS HERE!!!!!!!!"

Now......for somebody on the street... I could understand....
This guy worked for them.... I thought he would have a reasonably good idea of what they sold.....

I stopped ..... reversed my direction.... and left. There was a Radio Shack near my house that I went back to.

Everywhere - it's Buyer Beware. CB shop people got nothing on used car salesmen.

What's sadder is stupid "customers" who fall for this crap and apparently there's plenty of them.

There's not a lot of CB shops around anymore. I bet there are some whole states that don't have a single one. A particular little "shop" around here is on a major Interstate exit and caters mostly to truck drivers passing through. And they weasel (pun not intended) some occasional business from new local operators who stumble in there not knowing any better. The guy charges $60 and more for simple peak outs and sells radios for $100 and more than you can get them anywhere on the internet. And people pay this jerk..... sheeple. Why folks won't do a little research and looking and asking around before paying way too much.....oh well, it's their money.
You mean like the ones who will pay out good money for a "Super Whack Pack" Ghost Watts Tune up.

Radio Shack, You have questions?

We have dumb looks on our faces.

Man this is the point in the threads where we go back and forth, derailing it, sending it into a downward spiral of death. But this is too good to ruin so I’ll refrain, check your PM’s though...

Tech, Schmech . . .

There’s no end to ignorance.

Should we change this thread title to, “stupid things heard in church” (theological explanations)?

Anyone here up for examination via Catechism?

At least with a radio the “proof” is fairly simple:

1). I can hear.

2). I can be heard.

Simple guidelines exist. Pamphlets. Owners Manuals. And then on to books.

Have at hand information (links) someone else can use to get a start.

“What’s my part”? the only worthy reason for recounting these instances.

What (spiritual) antenna design only works the Zero Meter Band (that day & instance) where “stupid things said” are my lot?

It ain’t the O’scope needs some calibration.

Be nice if America's Trucking Network would do a story on CB 101.

Yes.

That the ARRL (or whomever) ignores or disrespects the greatest number of users of Radio (truck Drivers and/or CB Radio’s) says what one needs to know.

Hmm, rioters on the loose. CB wouldn’t have a role among the law-abiding, would it?

(Where not a lie) Hmm, an infectious disease on the loose. CB wouldn’t have a role among citizens between themselves to buy/sell/trade, would it?

The putative leadership of the Radio community thinks kindergarten field day (a ribbon for every participant!) suffices as demonstration.

“We’re so sorry, but only those in possession of magic decoder rings and fluorescent tattoos are eligible to participate”.

Good thing doctors don’t act this way (ONLY rare tropical parasite afflictions qualify), laughing at the charms and amulets for sale at a health clinic.

Where one is lead to believe that chicken-banders get what they deserve should be all the evidence needed of Enemy action.

“Enforcement” of the 55-mph speed limit became a joke once Americans decided to DO something about it.

Why do you think everyone wanted a CB radio?

Can’t have a repeat of that, can we?

(Think it through . . that old “common sense” thing).
