11 meter is very quiet?

We don't need no stinking band plan........

https://www.dxing.com/pirate.htm

Thx for the link.

The music noted is what’s been erased from common consciousness.
What they don’t want you to hear.

America, coming into its own, culturally. A mood (happy, with confident themes being explored).

Sophisticated, outward, dance-able.

Use of The Great American Songbook was the form.

The content (spiritual aspect) was new arrangements & interpretations. Not the same song.

“Big Band” is an intentionally deceptive catch-all description. As what was being done in 1959 was in some cases light-years away from 1939

How did it get here, . . from there? The spiritual differences.

Rock & Roll is kiddie music. Turn fifteen and you’ll want something more.
But where is that adult depth?

Do more drugs till you fizzle out. Alone. Unmarried. With no children.

TV & Beatles: set the pattern in 1964. One reinforces the other. Undisputed Enemy actions (with JFKs murder being the deflection point).

Cultural Murder, the whole point. Didn’t start then, but nothing’s gotten better since. (Invention stopped completely).

Won any wars with this TV & RR shit?
Foreign or Domestic?

Conquered the planet
in 3.5-years when the music reflected who we are.
Had babies falling out of cupboards.

And, (next up)

“Space, the final frontier”.

Per The Duke:

It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing”

Hearts, Hands, & Voices.
No electro-juice needed to perform it.
Correct Hz. Theoretical underpinnings.
Instruments 1,000-years in development.

That music (American music) is a flashing neon sign. Too bright for many. Disorienting for others. Give it space (time) and what will come up in you is irreplaceable.

Listen past recording tech differences. Both great. But only one plumbs depths the other hasn’t. (Everyone already “knows” the song . . so the differences are in deeper realization).

Take what Sinatra did with Nelson Riddle using almost-forgotten Broadway show pieces (what Harry James could also do)
and we’ve cleared the planetary atmosphere.

One gets closer to the heart of it.
The mirror focus of who we are.

got that rite

PIRATE Act Passes Senate, and Now on to the President for Signature – Provides for Big Fines and Enforcement Sweeps in Big Markets.

The bill increases the fine for pirate radio to a maximum of $100,000 per day of operation, to a maximum of $2,000,000. Fines can be imposed on anyone who “knowingly does or causes or suffers to be done any pirate radio broadcasting.” This would seemingly allow the FCC to go after not just the operators themselves, but also those who “suffer to be done” any pirate radio operation, which could possibly implicate landlords who knowingly allow pirate radio operations on their premises,

The bill also directs the FCC to coordinate with the US Attorney’s Offices and the US Marshall’s office to collect fines and seize equipment – powers that already have been used by the FCC to act against pirate radio operators.

only bit thst is concerning, you pay for an item with money you earned from honest work, then the gubberment siezes it and then id say the gubberment stole from you,not just radios, but firearms about anything they deem they want out of your posession

STM/Chris: I did not read the entire 16+ year old thread. That rhetoric has been going on since the advent of the 40 channel PLL's hit the market. I did before I got my ticket "dabble" there in the mid/late 70's. I traveled about 70K+ miles a year. The ability to get away from the endless garbage below channel 35 in those years, was welcome and the Sun cycle permitted pretty much "worldwide" communication at will. Once I got my ticket in 1979, 10 meter operation was much more pleasant and effective with just a barefoot 25 watt radio and good antenna system, you could easily chat with op's for 15+ minutes or more.
Having a real conversation!
That 10/15/40 meter operation did not consist of yelling for 5 minutes and then waiting to see if someone called through the garbage with your number or handle.
Not a contact in my book!
Home station with 100 watts and dipole(s) from 3rd floor balcony apartment in Iowa was a dream machine. So the allure of the freeband soon fell to licensed operation only.
I could care less if they did or did not operate there and came to the Amatuer bands. Though many times the "jargon" was a dead giveaway in some cases. What many "thought" was good operating there (freeband) was pretty much "lid" grade on the 10 meter band. Same thing came along I think around 1984 when Tech and Novices acquired 10 meter SSB privilege's.
I never did nor will hold the so called grudge to those that came from whatever route got them to Amatuer Radio.
I have now been a Amatuer operator for over 50 years. (EGAD!)
I do find it interesting that some seem to always "bash" us Amateur's for having "bad" attitudes. I wonder if sometimes "some" of those may need to "look' in the mirror and see "whom" the real attitude comes from. I know it did happen to some, sorry to say, but guess I had good Elmer's and meet many operator's that were always willing to be of "good" nature to help the "newbie's" along their way.
I can count on less than both hands the number of "bad attitude" Amateur's I have come across, that were truly "Jerks" in the 50+ years I have been on the air.
I need not say more.
Follow the rules, respect those that have come before you and have knowledge greater than I, has always made Amatuer Radio enjoyable and pleasant even after 50+ years.
How many can say that about any "hobby" that endures that long?
All the Best
Gary

late 80's i passed my test,i learned the hard way, used a pos 2 meter radio i bought in a pawn shop, still used 11 meter nasty cb radios. Tgen when radioshack came out with the hitx 212 i bought the first 1 our local radioshack got in. Rigged up a mirror mount 2 meter antenna ,lotta trial n error but got it rite.that 212 toured the usa never a bit of trouble.then i sold my truck n bought 75 milk cows.let license run out.
Got my license almost year ago. Things have changed lots but that htx 212 still works great but mic cord is dying.
I now got several radios. I dont condem anybody over 11 meter cb i still use mine n always will
