I just got this radio to set up my base. This is my first export. One thing I noticed is that the power is wide open on the low bands (band a) and low on j band. Do I need to tune it on the middle band? Or is this a typical compromise of these radios? I'm also running it into a salt water dummy load I through together.

I love the radio. My only gripe is that the rfx unit gets to hot. Anyone found a good aid for this? Thanks

I run a 24v fan near the back of my 257HP when I talk on the base with it. Since the fan only gets 12v it is very quiet but still moves enough air to control the heat.

Seems like there was a thread with a couple of guy's fixes with fans for mobile use. I remember m42duster having a dual setup that looked pretty slick, but I couldn't find it in a search.

As far as alignment goes, mine is always pretty spot on, unless it was really cold outside. Then it takes about 15-20 minutes to warm up and play right.

I have the Magnum S45 with RFX75 that I bought from Bellscb. I had him mount twin fans on the heatsink along with a on/off/hi/lo switch and that radio stays cool. I had forgot a couple of times to turn the fan on and yes that unit will get very warm to hot. But with the fans on it will barely get warm.

Cool. I might check those fans out. It seem to me that this fans wouldn't make that big of difference

I mounted a small 2" computer fan to the top of the heatsink with 4 small spots of clear slicone gasket stuff, let it sit over night and it is quiet and works well. I did have one mounted on the back but it seemed to collect dust on the fins, so far the top mount works very well. You can get those fans cheap on Ebay and wait a week or maybe go to radio shack and pay 2 bucks or so, either way it is a must have if your a long talker on either SSB or AM. While your in the radio messing around why not back down the power to like 55 watts of so sure takes a lot of the heat away

I had a single fan on my older 257. It was attached to the heatsink with plastic drywall anchors. It worked well, never came loose.

I think Robb had the dual fan setup. I ordered another 50 mm fan for my new 257. I'm looking for a different way to mount this one. I got the requisite drywall anchors, if all else fails.

The alignment information is incorrect......I've tried using it and it does not work and I cannot locate anyone who has the correct alignment info for a blue display 257..........I know this is a old thread but I thought I'd chime in for hell of it.
