Palomar Skipper and SWR Increase Question

So antenna has flat match. Put the Skipper inline, swr still flat till amp turned on. Then swr jumps right up, to say 2.5 to 1 or so. Do I leave it alone, or do I put my tuner in line, and then tune the amp back down to a flat swr when its transmitting. I only use ssb, so this question is pertaining to sideband use. Thanks for the help

If I remember correctly maybe it was the palomar 300 but I think it may have an input tuner I think on the under side of amp not sure exactly which one or where but it might have one

The "Load" and "Tune" knobs will change the SWR between the amplifier and antenna but will not correct the mismatch between the radio and the amplifier.

SteveSteve,
The Palomar Skipper 300 does not have an input tuner, but you can add one. See a portion from the thread below.

(Go to "Forums" click "Amplifiers" and search "Palomar Skipper 300". Find the thread titled "Bringing a Palomar Skipper 300 back from the DEAD!!")

Further testing of the amplifier was at last successful!! 600 watts output on SSB with 20 watts PEP in from a Bearcat 980 SSB.

Of course I can't leave well enough alone so I changed the power cord to a 3 prong cord, added a ground screw to the rear panel (that was a bit bigger than the stock4-40 screw), added a tuned input circuit and converted the stock meter bulb to an LED bulb in the original socket. The LED was just for my own entertainment and to see if I could make it work. Pictures below. The input tuning adjustment is just above and slightly to the right of the fuse holder. Input SWR is 1.6:1. Good enough.

Below is the tuned input circuit.

where are you measuring the high vswr?, where is the meter,

the load & tune knobs tune the amplifiers output impedance to match the load its seeing looking into the coax, they don't tune the vswr measured after the amplifier,

they will effect the amplifiers input impedance to some extent depending on how high the amps directivity/isolation is.

Hello I have a old school 2950 receives great on all modes and transmits great on AM but no transmit on SSB. Does anyone have any idea?
