Cray cray Texas Star pinball. I had no idea TS made such a MONSTERS!
I've never even read about this amplifier. Not even here where I'd expect to read about it. Ps. I just checked out YouTube in order to see if there was even a single clip on this amp.
Loewen behold! Apparently this Texas Stars (Viking 3?) was on the bench of BBI. It looks like the WC faceplate is in the hands of BBI himself. I'm not exactly sure, but someone once told me that the BBI stands for Bulshit Being Intensified (I lied. I just made that up. Lol!)

The whole Texas Star line up is modular. A dx 500 is actually 2 DX tree fiddys. A sweet sixteen is 4 dx tree fiddys. Since this unit has 2290s im assuming it's 8 dx two fiddys.

That many transistors in parallel was ok when they were 14 bucks a piece. Kind of like monster sweep tube amps when those tubes were a few dollars each. They aren't cheap watts anymore and not worth the current prices. JMO.

That information you shared about the Texas Stars being module is very interesting. My knowledge is very limited and that would have never come to my mind. So that's the way it works?! I agree about the prices of transistors, and tubes. I very rarely watch BBI clips, but watched this particular one because it was the only one about this particular Texas Star amplifier. Early on in the video which I only watched for about 2 minutes after fast-forwarding his intro I think he States the price of transistors being 270 something dollars each. Is that possible? I'm almost sure he mentioned that price in the clip about the amp that I posted a picture of. I say this because as I mentioned above I very rarely if ever watch BBI clips on YouTube. If I'm interested in a subject and search that subject area I skip over BBI clips. There too long and the guy apparently believes everything he says is the end-all and be-all. He just seems very pompous. And that's why I don't watch his clips. I watched several of them early on only to realize they were very good when insomnia was in full effect. That dude and his long-winded speeches and incredible knowledge "about everything radio related" tended to put me right to sleep.

I searched for 2sc2879 on the rfparts website and found nothing. Maybe he is charging that much for them. That's ridiculous for a 100 watt device but some folks are dumb enough to pay it.

Rf parts sold out of their non red dots last year and they were $199/each near the end. Rf parts finally sold out of their red dots the beginning of this year and at the end they were selling for $99/each.
There are several personal lots of non res dots for sale but you won't touch them for less than $150. Theres a 40 piece for sale locally thats got builders attention but no buyers yet.

Back in the early 90s we referred to TS amps as Taco Bell because they are all the same only mixed different.
A smart shopper would take that 2 grand and call carl or cat.
I still have a closet trophy Toshiba Hot Plate.
Good luck finding a builder worth a damn that isnt backed up for a year or simply not taking any builds at all only repairs.
I got lucky with the builder i chose and he agreed to take the job even though he was a year plus backed up on work. I had to throw a name and to show my appreciation im pulling a big ass thorn out of his foot.
I cant wait to get this dx1600 back filled with 150w C series hg pills.
