I have a 4 year old 55" Vizio TV model E55U-D0 with issues.

Was watching TV one night via Firestick and suddenly screen started turning from movie to lines and colors and audio cut out. (see all pics below)

Went around the boards pushing on them to see if it was a cold solder joint or something but no dice.

When I turned it off and back on I do have sound. So I decided to try replacing T-Con board.

I replaced T-Con board but that had zero effect.

There are only three boards so wondering if I should just continue on and replace the other two boards?

master board - $55.00
power supply board - $25.96

A new cheap brand TCL TV is $299.99 so not sure if I should keep going on the repairs or just junk it. I hate to be a throw away guy if it's just one of the boards.

I emailed a TV repair guy and he said - looks like screen has issue because of the color in the lower left

BUT the color comes and goes and the vertical lines change in intensity or disappear and then reappear. I have ZERO experience with screens though but seems strange the way it went out. Researching online other people with screen issues seem to get one spot or a black screen - not a bunch of lines.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if maybe it's not getting enough voltage and something is wrong with the power supply or something on the main board is wacky.







 

Yeah I tried plugging them in and out but that didn't change anything. None of them have anything visible that looks bad and touching them/moving them doesn't cause any changes.
 
im no TV repair expert but i have fixed a few.

It was always the power supply board, and it was always electrolytic capacitors that had failed.
admittedly two of these were Samsung TV's and this was a known issue.

however, when it comes to which part of a TV set is working the hardest (especially during a quarantine!) is the power supply or power supplies, as there are usually a few different voltages required.

look for the larger semiconductor devices on those boards and examine the electrolytics near them.
you may see the aluminum tops of them starting to bulge.

for 26 bucks, i would buy the power supply replacement board and try that first.

Money’s worth done.

Every government on earth heavily subsidizes these things. No social indicator one wants for self or family includes use of these.

Put the energy towards something worth it.

I threw out TV in 1974. Recommend the same.

Someone’s looking out for you with this event.

I made a a couple of offers on eBay - $20 each for the other two boards.

So all in I might be $60 into the parts if none of them fix the problem. Worst case if none of them work I'll sell all of them + the good parts from my TV as well and make my money back I guess. :)

I'll let you guys know the outcome. Thank you!

i would not buy anything.
thats a panel fault.
specifically one of the cof driver chips along the edges.
pull one of the ribbons from the tcon and turn it on.got half a good pic?
the bad river cof is on the side you unplugged.
if not reconnect and unplug the other.

seems like some knowledgeable advice here.

are those COF's as easy to remove as some of the videos make it seem?
are they even a part that can be found and purchased?

Ok I replaced all three boards - $60 - didn't fix the issue. The guy was right - it's a problem with the panel which can't find replacement for so TV goes in the garbage and I try to resell all the parts + plus my parts which were good.

Awe man, well at least you gave it a shot and now you know. It's a learning experience so at least now you know. I've got a 42" Vizio with some bad pixels on the top left corner so it may do like you and tear into it just to see the insides.
 
Easy fix,set it out in yard with clear area behind it,run extension cord to it,turn it on,get somebody to video it n get the 12 guage out,number 4 shot n shoot it,post video on u tube
