looking for a budget friendly or easy way to power my galaxy dx98vhp as a base new to the hobby so sorry if this is a simple question thats elementary. Just thought some old hands might have a cleaver way of powering up a unit. Thanks!

@sp5it ive heard alot about using a computers power supply and watched a few videos. Does this have the power id need to fun a radio and an amplifier?

The dx98vhp has a built-in amplifier ive been hunting one donw dont have my hands on it rn but if I needed too I could always run 2 of these in parallel right? So I could get one to get on the air for now and then once I get an amp ill keep my consumption in mind. Once I saw 40a consumption on ssb I figured I needed a stiffer power supply

Run 2 computer supplies in parallel. Personally i use 2 50a megawatt s700 12 supplies. Runs my radio and 4x2879 amp with no strain.

I, too, have used the MegaWatt power supplies and loved mine. While some complain about the fan noise on them, I never found it to be a real problem. Then I switched to the Alinco DM-330MVT. It is more expensive (About $170) but well worth it.

a. Provides 30 amps continuous, 32 surge
b. Fan is silent (that's right, silent)
c. In addition to the main posts on the rear, on the front there are two pairs of clip terminals (5 amps) as well as a cigarette lighter type terminal (10 amps). In the attached photo, you can see the leads to my Daiwa 901HP plugged into a pair of the 5 amp terminals.
d. Has a Preset function that allows you to set the voltage on the rear of the unit. That way, if the knob on the front is accidentally nudged, the voltage doesn't change.
e. Has a Noise Offset Adjustment for eliminating any generated noise. (Never had to use it on any band.)
f. Large, lighted meter on the front for viewing voltage or amps.
g. Stable and dependable. Used mine for over a year and my initial setting of 13.85 volts never changed.

I can recommend this power supply too. Extremely rf quiet for a switching power supply. As mentioned above the fan is absolutely silent. Mine has been in service for almost four years now. It gets heavy use and is on over 12 hours a day since new. It powers my 7300, Hp901 meter and even my cellphone. Highly recommended.

I also bought an Alinco. Directly competitive with similar MFJ/Nissei (a lower priced version of above).

So far as I understand, the big honker is ASTRON.

Buy more amperage than you’ll need.

See other threads.
