Not liking how aggressive the limiter is on the radio. It cuts back on the audio way too much in my opinion. Heard there was a swing mod that leaves the limiter intact.

Any advice, parts, or who can do a swing mod at a fair price would be appreciated. Thanks

Seems to be common with the whole president line. I owned a president Richard for a very short time, just wouldn't come alive so it had to go.

Hmmm...won’t come alive. Here’s my recently purchased as in 9/3/2020 President Lincoln II Plus

The first pic is AM channel 20 showing 2.1 watt dead key
The second pic is forward pep of 57.1 watts
The third pic is modulation with mic gain set at 3/4
The fourth pic is modulation with mic gain set at 1/2

All with the stock microphone...I must be missing something eh?

The last pic now since my edit is where all my crappy radios go...LOL. Ah a nice pit fire

I didn't own a Lincoln, it was a Richard. There's a whole wwdx thread with others chiming in about their presidents with the same aggressive limiter. As the Lincolns, I have never owned one so I have nothing to say but the Richard and Andy are pep turds

Well my Lincoln is a dog for sure. Bought it about a month ago. Sure it does full power with the RF power all the way up, and even then the limiter cut backs the power aggressively.

2 watt dead key, and I will be lucky to get 3.5 watts average, and then the limiter cuts it back to 2.5 average on a long audio. PEP wise about 15 watts on the beginning of a long audio, and then the limiter kicks in cutting the PEP to 8 to 10 watts. Using a Daiwa 901 HP, and I think the meter is working correctly.

My tech friend is unavailable to me, and I don't trust anybody else around here to work on it including myself. Eyes just too old, and hands too shaky. Just doing the conversion was a struggle.

Not looking to wring every watt out that I can get. Just need more PEP/Average swing at reduced carrier. With that said, could I just do the NPC/RC mod, and not do RWOB mod?

I assume these guys are talking about AM.

With most of these newer type radios you won't see the high swing from a low deadkey on AM unless you do the NPC mod. But really the only reason to do that is to run them with an amp BUT since they aren't AM screamers you'd be better off to have a Cobra 29/Galaxy on a switch box if you're looking to key 1 watt and swing 15 with loud audio.

OK!

Found a retired Navy tech that is local to my area that is going to do the work. He has a Lincoln that he talks on some times. I printed the schematics/mods, and he looked them over. Radio will definitely be scoped.

He wants to tune it his way first, and then let me know. That's fine with me. He did say there was a part that he could change the value on that would adjust how aggressive the limiter is. Just can't remember what part it was.

Anyway, going to let him do his tune first. I told him it was stock out the box, and only had been converted. Hopefully, it all works out because I do like the radio very much.

Thanks!
