Hi Gang,
I hope everyone is staying as safe as possible!!!

I have on the bench a Yaesu FT 840 which quit transmitting. The gentleman who owns it bought it new. The first thing I did was to work on replacing the nuclear resistor (R2213) and all of the parts around it. One problem I had was when removing the board the connector that the 6 pins from the regulator connect to (J2026) essentially disintegrated. The excessive heat from R2213 baked the plastic and it acted like vintage bakelite. I would love to replace it with a new J2026 but I contacted Yaesu and I got crickets. Not actual crickets you understand :) My question is, does anyone know of a way to get this replacement or do you have any suggestions how to make this work while keeping it capable of separating as needed?

Thanks as always!!!

BTW, the connector I am in need of is found in the service manual as shown below.

Here is a pic of the connector removed from the radio. It is supposed to be a 6 pin connector but as you can see it has broken apart. I did speak with someone in the Yaesu parts dept and they said that the part number has been discontinued and they are looking to see if there is a replacement part. Also, you can look up the video on mikes radio repair y-tube site and see him take this apart.

Here is the latest on the Yaesu. I spoke to someone in the Yaesu parts dept in California (again) and she did some research and was able to find the updated part number. As it turns out, they have a "ton" of them in stock. If all goes well, I will have 3 coming my way tomorrow.

Oh, you probably want to know what that new part number is? It's P0090624.

It's the small victories that count, right?

Hi Everyone,
I had a little time over the holiday to sit at the bench and look at this radio again. Yaesu was no help with the connector. They sent me 3 connectors over 2 shipments and they are all VERY wrong. I am unsure how the get this wrong as I sent them a pic of the connector I needed and they sent something very different. Oh well!!!

I removed the pass through connectors and made a connection between the regulator board and the main board with wiring. I also replaced the 5 and 9 volt regulators and the radio now has proper 5 volts and 9 volts. The issue now is that it still does not transmit. I am a little out of my expertise here and am unsure where troubleshoot next. The schematic does not give voltage measurements at the transistors so what would my next step be? When transmitting in AM I have 13 vdc on the finals bases and 1.6 volts on the collectors. I am tired and heading to bed.

Thanks as always!!
