RIP: Eddie Van Halen


I was talking to my mom earlier and was going to bring up his death, then keep making gay Queen references until she realized I was thinking of Freddie. I forgot, and its probably for the better. Hey, I think I'm funny and that's all that matters
 
At least he had Wolfie... someone will carry the legend on (hopefully). My hero Angus has no kids, will be an even more sad day than when Malcom passed.

I’d insert some Eddie humor here but it’s too soon and the video has profanity in it.

I saw them in '79 or '80. He was a good guitarist. Not "the greatest guitarist who ever lived" as I keep hearing people say, but a very good guitarist.

Guitarist can mean different things to different folks. As far as his ability to play a guitar, he's not even close to the greatest. A lot of great guitar players aren't very entertaining, so maybe it is just emotions and performance that make people claim he is the greatest. I don't care for him and have never seen him live, so I must judge on skill alone.

Well I didn't say he was the greatest, just my favorite. But in my book Eddie and Randy were two of the greatest, that's just my opinion I don't know jack about playing guitar, but always wished I could play. Their styles just appealed to me I guess that's why I liked them both, it just a matter of opinion like The Real Porkchop said his hero is Angus, I particularly don't care for Angus but he can definitely play, no doubt about it. And I like AC/DC, but of you were to ask my late grandpa who was the greatest guitarist, he would tell you Roy Clark hands down.
