2sc2290 in a connex or galaxy

Alright, decisions decisions and profanity at the work bench. I owned a 4300 a few years back and had taken some good pictures of the final section and shared on cbt but that's all gone now.... I looked through my photo's and only came up with this one so maybe it'll help if you even need it. I couldn't find a schematic for the 4300 either. Not that you need any help but my own thinking here. Anyway here you go, I thought it was a mosfet driving a generic 2290 but to my surprise it's a 2166.... hmmmm.20150227_213835.jpg

i intend on picking up where this left off. i have a president jackson on the bench right now and someone made an attempt at replacing the unobtainium mrf477 with an sd1446 and they simply ran wire to the tabs which much to my surprise actually was working for the customer. wasnt making barely any output less than 10 watts so its totally wrong but he was talking all over the place as is lol were gonna change the 446 to an hg2879 and itll actually work when im done. ill share all progress on here to support the cause

Years ago FGBest down in So Cal used to build some Galaxy radios with a 2290 mounted to the back of the chassis.
I thought there were some pictures here somewhere but I have searched and cannot find them.
That's back when Bill Good was still alive...rip.

This is not the one done by FGBest, much later.

Might be neat to put one in an Ares 2. I was thinking of an RFX on the back, but it makes a long radio even longer. I don't like the 203 inside because I would rather have the speaker.
Well all this time and I still have the boards tucked in a file cabinet, haven’t taken the time to do anything with them at all. I do however, have a donor 3300, the owner found out I had the boards and wanted me to try it.

I guess the question at this point is are they even still available now?

And like someone else said earlier in the thread, probably a smarter idea to just run an amp behind the radio and call it a day.

I don't know that I would want that on the factory heat sink. It really wasn't designed to dissipate that much heat.
It's an interesting concept to deal with a discontinued part, but I just don't know.
