Time is now to revive CB Radio

My ideas

Add 20 to 30 more channels past 40 if it can be done

All AM channels power increased to 16 to 18 watts
ch 19 only increased to 7 or 8 watts
SSB 24 or 25 watts

Went back to Amazon and found a $16 black seatback organizer that’s low key. Added a steel jacket hanger loop ($13) that mounts on the headrest.

Idea is that power & coax slither up behind that panel and emerged to connect into radio bag. (Each covered in black poly split loom).

Microphone hanger ought to be simple enough.

A heavy shirt or light jacket to hang over this.

Where to mount DSP speaker in a mid-size foreign SUV the only challenge remaining. May try under drivers seat firing forward as Applegate favors.

An NMO mount (with cap) will complete the install.

This is as “invisible” as I can currently conceive it (short of modifying console).

Run the road and the mic is ready at rear edge of passenger seat.

Stopped, ought to be able to cover mic & its cord easily. Dis-mount antenna also made easy.

Someone looking at or into vehicle has nothing to see.

Finally got around to ordering the Walcott Radio Radio Bag ($12.95). Like a book bag, but with rear cut-outs for coax & power. Extra pockets for mic, etc.

Had examined it at store last time through.

Does it have an opening for the speaker?

I saw the old midland mentioned a few pages back. Uniden actually made something decent to replace that and the god awful Cobra 75 everyone has in their jeeps. The head uses a standard RJ45 (ethernet) so you could put a jack anywhere and hide the main chassis away.

Guess I can source a black Members Only jacket vintage 1983 to install on that hanger, ha!

I’ll tell my son the bad taste mojo works great with lowlifes. They mommas allas buys NEWEST name-brand at outlet store.
That cheesy cover bar band has been seen on occasion to pop their heads out from stagnation. No entrance charge with free drinks for woman over 60. The only time I think of “Members Only” is one of Bobby Blue Bland’s hit songs.

My son was born in the early 1980s.
He will “get” the cheesy associations instantly.

Maybe I’ll hang some gradient-tint aviator shades from the mirror.

Tell him I’ve finished the install after a few spritzes of Aramis inside.

I’d catch hell, though, if It had a Micheal Jackson key-up sound.

Not familiar with either radio. The one you mention looks worth investigating.

in this instance, SSB is a requirement.

A Kl203 or a speaker would not fit the bag. It’s mainly as camouflage.

I’ll Velcro the KL203 to the side of the console. Some sort of coffee spill protection. As it’s black in color, maybe attach to organizer. That will wait till I’m doing it.

(All lines will have Andersen PowerPoles as disconnects).

Thr radio is also being packaged (gear & supply & two (2) dipole antenna included) to alternately be installed as a base station with power supply in a console (POWERWERX).

Mobile or Base. A gift I’ve been working on slowly since last year.

I ever get it finished, a short thread to accompany.

Cobra 75 is probably the worst performing radio on the market today and yet its highly popular with 4x4ers. It came out years ago (SoundsTracker!) but they keep making it because it is so popular. Everything including the RX/TX circuits are jammed in the hand unit. Yes they run the RF down the mike cord with power and speaker audio. Imagine how that is for RFI. You can always tell 75 users because they have ignition noise on their signal and they can't hear no one :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the laugh
My ol man used to clean up once in a while to take mom out to eat. He didn't want to wear the smoky tavern coat so he would break out the charcoal grey dress jacket.
I used to tell him he was the last remaining member of "members only".

I had the blue colored one straight out of the sears catalogue. That was pretty cool back then...

We are of an age to DENY any youthful lapses in taste. Unlike today’s Internet addicts, no one can prove it with a pic.

One understands that this IS the source of the younger generations dislike of Baby Boomers. We had ‘em time-stamped on video straight from the birthing canal.

You need the Porsche fold up aviators to go with the Members Only jacket. The ones I had were $15 from the flea market and I had to save up my paper route money for about 4 weeks to get them. I was cool for about a week, then they broke. Haha!
