Have not seen much of this radio

Can the PLL do extra channels? Thirty watts peak would be great for a 4 pill running easy. Does it do 30w peak out of the box? Just tweak the high power pot? Might get one to play with.
Shade, I haven't played with it as far as channels go and it was a little anemic out of the box. I had a full alignment and peak done on it to what it does now. I'm sure you could crank up the mod vr but it'd probably be a little dirty afterwards. I can say that after alignment the receiver is great but of course I didn't spend much time on it before the alignment so I'm comparing it to my other rigs. Far better receiver than any cobra 29 I've ever owned and on par with most galaxy or ranger exports I've owned

So your saying a galaxy/ranger has better rx than a cobra29
My Texasranger 696f does
Once I ran through the factory service procedure for the alignment on my TR it became my main CB. It was a dog out of the box but now has great ears.
I am sure alot of people are sitting on the side now waiting for groundwire's report!

Its going to be a little bit. Ordered it on fri from wallcott. Dont know how long they take to ship. I will report back when it gets here. I also ordered a dx959 from cb world on fri, got it sat and holy crap. All the knobs are solid its dead nuts on frequency, does not drift after warm up, works 100% no issues. I almost fell over. Vietnam must have gotten yelled at for their shit quality control or something because this one is nothing like the garbage one i got 1yr ago. Im ordering another one right now.

Again — leaving aside SSB — that’s the one I’d want for a base station (starting from scratch). The Default Radio.

I might like my 99v2 over that but it’s a lot more money and audio on the other end not different (with reports I’ve had versus a 979 or 86).

My TR696 is the same board as the 959. Will be interesting to see what board is in your new AM radio. Watch it just be the same board also just missing the ssb parts.
Unlocking the clarifier on the 959 is easy but I am sure you will have to re-align everything. I did it before aligning mine. Maybe smarter heads will chime in on that issue.

On this 936 i would love to have a variable pwr put in on the talkback control. Its what ranger should have done . I dont know how to do it though so, bummer. Oh well

Looks like you study the 939 board to see how the variable was done by the factory. I'm telling you, it's nearly identical to the 939 +/- features. When I get a chance I'll take a look myself, too bad I don't have a 939 to compare with as it would almost be like having a cheat sheet.

Agreed, that's probably the most noticeable difference between the 29 and any ranger made in a big truck. The 29 is noisy even after rx alignment and added filtering.

Just came to my mind about this radio, the one I have has an extremely sensitive frequency counter that likes to dance a lot even after alignment. Hopefully yours isn't so sensitive as this one is. It's absolutely the only thing that's kind of a nuisance with the rig

Thats not the counter dancing. That's the radio's oscillator. The counter is just reading the mail. With no clarifire I am going to bet this radio wont always read 27.1850. Mine will move around a bit as it warms up. Will make zero difference on AM but would catch my OCD for sure. Even on AM i always zero mine.
