I wouldn't think I'm the only one with this question. So when installing, modifying, or maybe resurrecting an old microphone then you go to put on the plug but don't have the proper strain relief to squeeze the cable into the clamp of the plug. I've used coax jacket, sometimes heat shrink but it always ends up looking tacky to my OCD self. What do you fellas use? I know mic cable sizes vary so it's not a one size fits all, just looking for suggestions from experience.

“a course, ifs you was a REAL truck driver you’d have that swingin’ mic cord right above above your ape-hanger tall shifter, with a motley assorted retractor, paracord and mini-bungee skein affixing it in time & space . . thus rendering this whole drives-a-half-ton Softball Daddy question moot”.

Yeah, I just add some mic cable shielding to thicken that end so that it won't move when clamped.
Just do a neat job of it, instead of a sloppy job.

That's kind of what I've done through the years and with other material like coax jacket. The question was looking to see what other options others use.

Silly Putty?

Dubl-Bubl?

Petrified Red Man chaw?

(90-degree mic cord adaptor suits me for an overhead mobile install).

Yes sir, the workman c-4r has worked well for me in the past. Haven't had a chance to hang that gear keeper yet but it's on the agenda. I hadn't used a mounted mic clip in years so I still catch myself reaching for the mic that isn't just hanging there from the retractor

Then it’s a durned good thing we got you in an automatic-trans big truck now. Whew!

Next you’re gonna tell us you use a spit cup gots a straw.

(TESSA harness tape helps me with similar “problems”.)

Oh no no no, they at least still gave me the fuller 13 speed but the next one probably won't be the case... hell, the way things are going it'll probably be electric or maybe they won't need me because it'll be driverless too

I'll have to look up that TESSA, you've sparked my curiosity

I use 2 layers of thin heat shrink. Since there are so many different sizes and thicknesses, finding the perfect combo will require you to have an extensive collection. First layer is placed directly under the clamp, no further. Second layer extends about a half inch beyond the plug. Looks pro…I can’t handle cheesy.

material like coax jacket.

That's what I always done and it works great. Preferable the clear outer jacket rg8x type coax seems more rigid for this.

Just cut off a piece of old coax and pull out all the wires then cut off about a one inch stub. To make it easier to slip over the mic cable, rub a bit of alcohol on it and it'll slide on into place easily.
