I JUST HAD A ANYTONE 6666 BUILT BY SNAKE RADIO, HAVING PROBLEMS WITH SET UP. TRYING TO MAKE IT WORK IN A 2017 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA (FIBERGLASS BODY) . THE MOUNT IS GROUNDED TO THE FRAME, BUT I HAVE TO TILT THE ANT. ABOUT 40 DEG. FORWARD TO GET A .6 SWR.0N 10 METER SIDE. IT IS SET TO NOT KEY UP ABOVE 2.0, SO THE 11 METER SIDE NOTHING. DO I NEED A 2nd ANT.? OR A DIRFERANT ONE? THE ONLY ONE THAT I GOT TO WORK NOW IS A DOUBLE COIL WIDE BAND.... TRIED DIFF. LENTHS AND ANT. (WILSON 1000,FRANCIS. TOP LOAD. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME CHRIS

Please don't use all CAPS and also some paragraphs would make it easier to read.

Most mobile CB antennas aren't going to allow you to do 10/11 meters with a low SWR. If your SWR is 1.2 or so in the CB band it is almost guaranteed going to be over 2.0 when you go to 10 meters. You need an antenna tuner if you plan to use a CB antenna for both with a low SWR. Or you could install a 11 meter antenna on one side of the cab and a 10 meter on the other and use an antenna switch.

Do you have a ham radio license? If not then you shouldn't be in the 10 meter band anyway.

sorry about the caps, in the process of up grading to gen. is there a 10 meter you suggest??? thanks for your time

Needs to install a "bird perch" that bolts to hinge screws and provides a ground for a mirror-mount type antenna.

At least that's what my local truck expert tells me. Good chance the antenna's high SWR has to do with a ground connection that's not sufficient for an antenna.

i do have a perch and i run a ground wire from the ant. bracket to the frame. what i think the problem is, the mirror only has a bottom bracket and the perch sets low. if you move the ant. to a 45 deg. swr's jump up to 5. i'm thinking if i build a bracket that has a pertch thats higher {above the side window} it might work. thanks for your time.... chris

i'm looking for books on learning the ham radio world. the test prep books dont explain the answers in depth or how, and what is needed. any suggestions???

Your Anytone 6666 at this point is converted and set up for 11m with some "freebanding" if you will on some of the SSB channels just above channel 40. For AM freeband skip you check just below channel 1.

When it comes time for ham radio talking get a ham radio and an antenna set up for that band. An antenna tuner will probably be part of that as well depending on what your trying to do.

Before you do anything though you need to get your antenna system in that truck set up properly. Newer semi trucks are a pain in the butt to get properly grounded. Realize too that the antenna SWR is set or tuned to the vehicle, not the radio. Once you get it right you can switch from radio to radio and not have to change anything. (for normal 11m use)

thanks for all the info... i am looking for books on how the ham world works. have alot of study guides, but they dont explaine the answers. i dont want to memorize the answers, want to know why{ like a school book. read a chapter take a quiz} you know old school leaning. thanks for the time
