Sorry to bother anyone with this trivial question, but I cannot find the info I used to have readily available. A friend has a 2980 that someone else had set up for him and it's just wrong. I want to help him out. I need to adjust his AM carrier cuz right now wide open is at 15 watts and low is at 10 watts. Back in the 80s and 90s I had all this info but lost it over the years. I cannot remember which variables are for high and low. Going from memory, I THINK VR13 is the high adjust and VR15 is the low? If anyone knows
I sure would appreciate some knowledge. The dude also has the SSB cranked to the nuts and doing about 55 watts. I would like to know the AM high, AM low, usb output and LSB output variables. Thanx in advance.

Not 100% - but if it's the old original RCI-2980 I think these are the points you need

AM Power VR13 High Power, VR16 low power
AM Mod VR14
SSB ALC VR12

Only way to do that is to turn the power supply voltage WAY too high.

Closest thing to the original 2980 that has service data would be the Galaxy DX11B.

The trimpot for minimum AM carrier is on the circuit board for the front-panel flip switches. Should be marked "VR803". The very first versions of that base radio had only a high/low switch for AM carrier. The trimpot was behind that switch. When the variable knob was added a few years later, the "low" trimpot on the switch circuit board became the minimum-setting for the variable power.

Oh, and ignore the AM-power part of the alignment instructions. Took a glance at it, and it's just plain wrong.

This one has variable pot RF power output. I've not been inside of it yet so I haven't seen the board.

Here's an old video of a a 2980, it shows the adjustment points but not sure of the accuracy -

Going to take a good look at this as it'll probably be close to what I need. Thanks

I too would appreciate that info. Can you PM me with it also? Trying to confirm hi / low power vr numbers. Thx

I used VR 14 and VR 18 as per Copper's.
