i remember i say about 20 years ago there was an easy mod for the stock mike to give it a tad more base by adding a .1 or .01 or .001 disc cap on the + and - side of the mike element or was it to add treble if it was to bassy sounding that's why I'm asking thanks I've never been a power mike guy always them cobra coffin mikes

Add ACROSS - to get a little more Bass. Add In-Line to add more Treble - with consideration

To Add Bass - Start small - it'll "lack Treble" and sound muddy if you use too high of a value.

To add more Treble - do the opposite - the smaller the In-Line cap is, the higher the tone it passes will be - but you need a rather large uF (Microfarad) value to start out to find the right "Bass Cut" anything below 0.047 (473 Disc) may not allow enough audio to pass and be weak sounding

Usually on those "Coffin types" - 560pF (561 Disc) to as high as 0.0022uF (222 Disc) ACROSS to kill (Roll-Off) the Treble.

But depending on what your radio is, you might get a little more Bass if you use those Goldfinger mods.

Not me I have a voice like Darth Vader! I modify my radio's for more treble. Bass does not get you heard or make you easier to understand. Bass is ok if you just want to rag chew with locals but beyond that it is stupid and inefficient use of a radio if you actually want to get heard, get out and use your power effectively!

You can either build the radio to sound great to 1% of people on the radio and waste resources and sound bad to anyone with a stock radio or you build it to talk! CB's are not broadcast radio and they are not ham gear.

You can have tight clean crisp audio and modest power with a decent to great antenna and be heard and understood by people with no signal on you just your audio and sound good.

You can waste a lot of time chasing bass on a cb radio and have less than nothing to show for it in the end.

A case in point of which voice is easier understood is when a female takes the mic everyone seems to have their CB on...

But, seriously, the female voice is often easier understood over the air.

The pitch of little screaming babies even more so. That’s always been my cue to be elsewhere.

Sure won’t hear those wanna-be Barry White radio operators at that point.

A blessing of a mans older years is that his hearing declines across the female voice range.
