TEXAS STAR DX 500

My texas star dx 500 worked great until recently. The meter and meter light no longer work but the fuses are good. It has good carrier but no modulation now. My cobra 29 ltd classic works fine bear foot but not with the amp now. Have checked jumper cables and watt meter. These work with just radio but not with radio and amp. Any help would be appreciated!

Do you hear the "click" from the linear's relay when it's powered on and you key the mike?

If not, that points to the circuit that activates the relay. Usually a failed transistor that sells for under a buck when you buy ten of them.

And if you DO hear the click, this points to more-expensive stuff.

Since the meter light is not coming on, that indicates the keying circuit is not being powered. That could be the transistor that Nomad mentions or it could also be one of the 10 uh chokes that feeds DC to the keying circuit relay and meter light.
