This is probably an old topic but I and looking into a new ground plain antenna for my shack. I have run numerous different types of antennas over the years, 4 elements quads, PDL II, 3 Element yagis, the original Sigma 4 but never used a Sirio antenna. I am undecided between the Vector 4000 and the 827. I remember the old Sigma 4 was a great antenna but after a few years the top was so bent up from the wind due to having the solid tip on it. Just want to get your guys views on the Vector 4000 or the 827. I here from some guys the Vector 4000 is great but how does the 827 stand up to it? Maybe I should just go with the old standby Maco 5/8. The 10/k is just to much money. I have a Imax 2000 now and just not impressed with the performance. Thanks in advance Joe (2AT054)

my opinion the vector is the best period. bigger is better the tornado is a little longer than the 827 more comparable.i own the 19 and 1/2 foot maco 5/8 and the 24 foot imax and the imax works better, covers more frequencys and does not change in the rain.

well he said he wasnt impressed with the imax .much like me its too
noisy and mine snapped under less than 100 mph winds.
i too would like to compare a maco against the sirio827
i currently use a sirio 2016 with good results.

Hotrod, My first I-max snapped too and it was only a 50/60 mph wind. I had the old Sigma 4 and loved the performance but didn't hold up to well in the wind. I'm leaning toward the Maco 5/8 or possibly the 827.

i was leaning towards a 827 when i was gonna buy a base antenna , but comments about the solder point between the coil and the radiator shorting even after taking it apart and fixing it killed my enthusiasm for it . the 4000 is said to be the strongest omni CB antenna Rf wise currently made ....... but id only trust it in fair weather areas ...... unless you take it down during storms and ice . if someone is afraid to follow assembly instructions , don't have room for ANY ground elements or needs a antenna with the least amount of potential to catch neighbors or the spouses eye the 2000 is probably the antenna for them . there's a bit of speculation that the new sirio gain-master may be superior to the 2000 though .

if i were buying id lean towards the maco/workman 58 or a tornado ATM myself unless i had big bucks to buy one of jays interceptor 10K's ......... but im not afraid of following simple written instructions with pictures .

and there's always the option to home-brew your own ;)

I'd go with the Vector 4000 simply because its aluminium and massive, bit its a future antenna for me.
I currently run a 6m Thunderpole on a 6m mast, have an A99 with the FS99 upgrade waiting to go up on the roof sometime this week.
Thing is, I'm getting good results from this cheap £39.99 ($50) thunderpole, 30mile radius, and if them's up high, its over 80, as Stoke on Trent is 82.2miles from my little English village.
I'd like the best (imo) vertical antenna after testing a few to stay up on 1 of the chimney stack, the other stack I'd like a Yagi 4ele Beam n small rotary, I then got the best of both world's
