Anyone metal detect?

I liked my Yard Sale Rat Shacks . Good Point ... Easy to use , Bad Point ... kinda sucked ! Finding cheap metal , NP mine had no sensitivity . What do you expect from a Metal Detector w/ 3 knobs ! :whistle::ROFLMAO: But I am making progress w/ the Garrette . That little orange Dildo kinda thing ... Way easier to use for this old simple minded " Swamp Yankee " . Really need to get back in the woods behind me , Civil War Troops were here & from what I was told George Washington stayed about 2 miles from my house . Bob , I used a neighbors White many years ago , I loved that thing ! Worked Great & Easy to use .(y)

imho the Nox is probably the best all rounder available right now, its deep & fast,
fairly simple menu,
id numbers are a bit compressed at the low end of the scale compared to what im used to,
I love the 50 tones, its musical, never going back,
For the kind of detecting I do I would not swap mine for anything else right now,

Nokta are developing a simultaneous multi frequency machine in the simplex waterproof housing to compete with the Equinox 800, That could be interesting.

The 800 gets rave reviews. I came close to buying and likely will. The Vanquish 540 is multi frequency like the 800. For now, I don't think the 800 would make a huge difference in the way I'll be detecting.

Currently, the Fisher F75 is my first pick, followed by the Nokta Simplex. The 540 is nice as well. I'm going to be hitting local streams and creeks this summer. I'll use the Simplex since it's waterproof. The Fisher F75 Limited has the boost process and is noticeable over the basic F75. It is a deep machine.

Lol, I bought 5 brand new detectors within 2 weeks. I'm giving the wife the basic F75, my son likes the 540. I'm keeping the others for backup and for friends and other family to use. I imagine I'll grab an 800 very soon. I might wait until January to take advantage of Kelley Co's 15% military discount on Minelab units. They only allow one purchase a year. I already used it for the Vanquish 540. Hard to beat that deal and their prices in general.

The cheap Bounty Hunter units I owned in the past were fun. I just didn't research the technology and techniques back then. It's very fascinating on how accurate the higher-end units are. Being able to predict what the actual item is before digging is fascinating. I didn't study how they operated back then. I wish I had delved deeper years ago. I'm shocked that my wife has shown interest. She really enjoys it. My son gets a kick using his. He's Autistic and so far, video games were the only thing he liked. Having him getting outdoors is a blessing to us.

Those are nice units from what I've researched. The T2 looks like a F75, but apparently it's worlds apart under the hood.
 
My detecting buddy swapped from simplex to Vanquish & likes it,

We have compared many dozens of targets & it gives the same id numbers as my Nox almost every time,

I run with iron audio on but turned way down so its audible but not annoying & I love 50 tones, once you get used to it there's no going back,

The simplex is deep waterproof & well made, The stock 11" coil is too big for the fields we detect that are full of iron trash, it drove him nuts digging iron,

They also don't handle some beaches well with stock coil but work ok on others,

He had a choice, buy the sp24 coil or try a different machine & went Vanquish,
they look like a kids toy but they work great in trashy sites,

The stock 11" coil on Nox is too big for the same fields so I went to the 6" coil & that made life much easier, on other fields I use the 11" coil,

Not tried a Fisher since the 1266 cz7 cz20 days many years ago,

I can't stand garrett detectors but the carrot AT is a good pinpointer & the form factor of the apex is sexy, I wish my Nox had the same shape screen,

apex may be simultaneous multi frequency but the modes only change the disc pattern,
They don't change recovery speed or the weighting towards higher or lower frequencies like the Nox,
iron trash around good targets pulls the good targets downwards into iron tones or discs them out,
That's pretty useless in the kinds of fields we detect.
 
I dont go as much as I used to but I still use my Tesoro Bandido.. Its about 30 years old but still does the job

I have the basic Garrett pinpointer, Minelab Pro and Fisher F Pulse. I use the Garrett. The Minelab is not sensitive at all. The F Pulse is crazy sensitive and causes interference with my detectors. I have to keep it on low sensitivity. It needs to be re tuned frequently and false to much. It seems to be a hot rod. I like that it takes AA's, though. I'm sending the Minelab and F Pulse down the road. I want the orange carrot one.

I'm right there with you, my dad has a metal detector that I've acquired, it's a few years old, still looks brand new. There's an old home site right in my front yard, you can make out what's left of a foundation in places. I plan on using that metal detector, but I swear you need a degree from MIT to operate the dang thing.

have you tried the software update for the APEX, its suppoosed to calm them down & improve depth & tones

I had a garrett pro pointer & had to repair it, been using a Nokta pointer for a couple of years, very well made but not very deep,

I just bought another pinpointer a couple of days ago,

I went with the XP mi-6 because I wanted rechargeable & I like the pitch mode better than beeps,
MI-4 & 6 are too quiet as a stand alone pinpointer in noisy environments with the waterproof cap screwed on (n) I knew it before I bought it so I bought a spare cap to modify the same day,

went with MI-6 over the 4 because its easier to sell if I get bored of it & want to try something different.

I want to try the F-pulse/ Tek-Point for the depth & not using expensive 9v batteries(y),

I always ground balance my pointers when I turn them on which usually sorts any falsing,
probably the deepest pinpointer you can buy right now & works ok with the Nox,
They are expensive over here & out of stock at the few places that sell them,

Detecting buddies have had the Minelab profind 35, its sensitive but they don't seem to be consistant or reliable,
some are less sensitive, some are too sensitive & false, some have screw cap issues & cracking issues,
The iron audio is not as effective in the real world as they would like us to believe,

The pro 15 & 20 are not as sensitive.
