Morning all, so when modulating on my galaxy 949 the talkback is scratchy/ distorted. It has variable and doesn’t matter were I set it. However I set up a monitor radio in the rear of my truck no antenna and I don’t hear it in my actual modulation. Is it normal that it’s crappy in talkback but loud and clear in the actual transmission? How can I clear up the talkback ? Thank you all

In the past I remember running into the same issue after turning up the modulation. It was more of a distortion rather than scratchy as you describe.

If it sounds distorted though, you can change R187 from 22k to about 47k and it will tame down the distortion if that's what you're encountering.

Scratchy I would suspect the mic, but that doesn't make sense if it doesn't show up on the receiving end.

The Talkback pot may be bad, every time you turn it on, the TB audio path, is shorted to ground - or nearly a dead short at that just turned on position - can place a breif, but enough, pulse of power thru that substrate to open it up like a fuse.

Tends to put a lot of stress on the audio path and the pot- if it's bad, one of the main symptoms is you don't have any control over the volume - it's "overloaded" - measure J1 - across the header, when TB is on that is the pot.

If it's open, you don't see any thing except a flashing 1 or O.L. (Open Line) means the pot is shot - replace it

Thanks so much I’ll take it to r&r Communications. Sometimes if i turn it off then on it helps . But it’s real bad between off and 11oclock. It does get louder sometimes clearer the louder I have it
