Remove Noise-Cancelling Feature of Astatic 636L

I hate to disparage Rockford, Il. I lived near that area years ago (small city just west of Chicago). Unfortunately those mics are inferior compared to the older ones made elsewhere.
The noise cancelling feature is something that is built into the construction of the microphone itself. It is accomplished using the element and how sound is channelled to it and how it is mounted. You cannot change that. Why would you want to anyway? It does not affect the sound quality or anything else in any way.
Phew, mine says Rock Island so I guess I can keep it.

100% correct. Noise cancelling microphones have been used for decades in high priority communications systems to ensure intelligibility in high ambient noise situations including emergency vehicles to reduce the sound of the siren in the background while talking.
Rockford? Rock Island. I got it wrong. The folks named "Bar Jan" who owned the name located in Rock Island went bust a while back. While they owned the product line quality took a sharp downturn.

The quality issue in question is statistical. Not every mike they made would go to pieces. But the wear-and-tear of life on the road seemed to wear them out prematurely. A mike that should have lasted an OTR driver for a year became a mike that would have trouble in weeks or a month.
And if yours is a low-mileage unit, there could be plenty of "easy" miles left in it.

Nomad, Who bought the Astatic name now? What do you know about the Road Kings? They are worse than the Astatics. I think one of the biggest downfalls is they now make a poor switch.
I just looked it up. CAD Company Makes Astatic. It is odd they do not show the D104 MB6. I then looked up who made the Roadking. That says Roadprow family of brands and under it all says a division of DAS Companies Inc. HMMM DAS Companies and CAD Company. makes me wonder if they are all the same.

On a serious note, I used my "Rock Island" 636L, purchased in 2012, on the road for 5-6 years. It took some banging on the overhead above the dash while hanging on a Gear Keeper quite well. Had to clean the PTT switch a total of once. Still has the OEM cable. I must have been lucky to have grabbed one before the quality went to hell, as I don't doubt it did. A clear sounding, well made mic, IMHO. No butchering required.
The RD104E purchased around the same time is a polar opposite. Cheap junk.
Scratchy PTT switch right out of the box. Flimsy, sloppy PTT button. Cable strain relief split after short time. Wires broken off of PC board. And I'm not hard on mics. Piece Of Schitt. "Conneaut, Oh" on the back.

Good or bad I don’t know. I like’m both. The Ohio one looks pretty bad but works fine. Lip Bumper is missing

The 636 and d104m6b are my go to mics for handheld. The first thing I do when I get one is open it up and lubricate the switch with deoxit. They appear to come from the factory with no lube in the switch. If you lube it before it gets scratchy, it will be good to go in my opinion.
