11 meter is very quiet?

Last night started out as a wall of noise. The skip was rolling so hard I had to fire up the Brute II just to talk to my locals. Just idled along on low about 110 watts, but that's what it took to talk 20 miles. Then it started clearing up and turned into a good 15 minute conversation with a couple guys in a group called Smokey Mountain Skip Shooters in Tennessee. One called Boxcar and the other was Kickin' Chicken. Nice guys, and clean sounding radios. Usually it's a ton of people trying to make a 10 second contact, so it was nice to actually have a conversation with very little background noise.

produced an isolated C1 flare at 06/1915 UTC as it rotated close to the
SW limb. Region 2837 (N17W36, Axx/alpha) underwent decay and was
inactive. Region 2839 (N19E10, Cro/beta) underwent periods of growth and
decay, and was inactive. New NOAA/SWPC Region 2840 (N27W63, Bxo/beta)
was assigned to a small area of spot development that was stable. No
Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph image.

Np's Here with Dx & my new friend " Fat Boy " , just glad I had it built the way I did thanks to some WWDX friends !:) I get so many compliments on Am & especially SSB . I got a PM from my friend John # 303 , North Ireland the other day , said he could hear me on 38 LSB , I went to 37 as he said just feel bad I missed him . As said before when DX is running look for me on 21 AM " Big Radio Boulevard " ( We have a FB page here in RI ) I will QSY any freq you want . Skip is insane right now. Just a blur of noise. Was trying to talk with locals, all within a 20 mile radius. At 110 watts I was barely making it. Took 350 watts just to talk with locals that normally hear me loud and clear running barefoot. Guess I'll put the new tubes in the pdx 400 tonight to simmer so I can reach my locals tomorrow night. Don't get me wrong, it's great to hear the airwaves pick up again, but damn. Lol

Great info, but way above my head. Can you break that down to layman's language? Sorry but I'm not real technical. I make sure my radio, antenna, and amp play together nice and transmit clean regardless of power. Again, it's great info, but the bottom line takes more tech knowledge than I have to understand.

Made a trip to Northeast Arizona/New Mexico border. Station sounded great! Said I sounded like I was in his driveway. Sweet!!!

So I go to AM 19 and a muffled 163 Hardrive comes in....all of a sudden his signal jumps 3-4 S units. Conditions? No way! He was definitely running power. I caught it because he was in mid sentence. What a hack! Just my observation. Rant over.
