Caboverbob late introduction........

Twenty cents/mile. All the pilot car guys that I know run at $1.75/mile and deadhead for free. I charge $1.85 & $.20 if they want to pay by the mile. I typically work by the hour, and that mileage rate gets me close my hourly rate. My way of discouraging clients to pay by the mile. Hourly rate is from the time I leave my driveway until I return.

thanks for the insights on how it works!

Thanks for pics!

I rarely see a SIRIO, but I believe I’ve heard a few.

That radio mount pretty steady? Leans on seat?
It's extremely steady on two Ram mounts leftover from my motorcycle days. It is against the console, but not much.

I picked up the Sirio from the ebay sellers warehouse in Fremont Ca, seems to be working well so far. Most of my radio use is with drivers within 1/4 mile, but I do try to make distant contacts to/from the jobs.

Just put the rci in today, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Taking a Siemens rail car Sac to Seattle next week, so I'll be playing radio while we lay over. That thing swung to 260 on the techs bench, I assume 14-15v+, so I don't expect the same on my system.

Still have to add a bunch more straps, I have way too many projects.......

Truck Wash

Blue Beacon
to do a number on wheel wells and underside. “Classic Wash” and brush.

— Getting coordination from crew thru foreman to shoot backside of wheels from opposite of truck as well as all components underneath from multiple angles, justifies the wash expense.

Will have to move truck forward to expose the rest of the wheel. Axle housings, etc & wheels cleaned from both sides. Toughest angle underneath is from behind front wheelwells and forward towards suspension & oil pan plus across trans.

— Rain-X
post-wash spray is worth the additional expense.

FWIW: Some fuel economy, but mainly handling at high speed, can be improved by cutting a flat sheet of plywood to cover rear half of bed. Equalizes pressure against tailgate from both sides.

Change FF/RR anti-roll bar body bushings to polyurethane. Quit making tires do body control (sidewall flex).

KONI or BILSTEIN shock absorbers.
Quit making tires do shock absorption.

You’ll be using less throttle, and less duration + rate of steering cut to enact a lane block. (Glide around, don’t power around).

And if I wrote this all before it’s because it’ll work.

Got really busy with some out of state pilot car jobs and some drag racing in Tulsa, started to get a bunch of noise from my led strobes, high pole light and some alternator noise. Installed an inline 40a noise filter and rerouted my coax today. When I powered up I had swr off the chart, even though all of the same components were reused. Had some pizza, checked my coax with a multi meter, and holy crap I'm below 1.5 across the band !

Glad to be back !
