Still tip toeing back into this hobby. Just put the above rig into service, first time I've ever had a freq counter (or display ?). Typically local traffic is on 27.1650. My "display" says 27.1653 when cold and after it's been on for 15-20 minutes it reads 27.1647.

I've read that most exports drift, but will this drift in the fourth decimal place be detectable ?

Also curious how accurate/trustworthy the onboard swr meters are in these rigs ? I have been using one of the RS 21-534 SWR Wattmeters, which I'm confident is accurate, and the on board meter seems to read very close to it.

You’ll get plus readings if you dribble a little rose water on it.

Minus readings you “spill” some java.

“Accuracy”, IMO, is going to be relative. In a mobile environment they are feedback devices.

Park here. Measure.

Drive ten miles. Measure again.

Big Factors (environment) are going to have a say. You’re changing the field surrounding the station. Likely, differences.

And, it’s not pro equipment.

The fixed base guys can get (kinda) calibrated. My opinion is that with mobile (cross-country) we’re looking for in-ballpark relative. Close.

I’m not sold on 6-digit for this reason. It’s a maybe or maybe not thing. (That’s not any criticism implied).

Basically same with SWR meter. I’ve read that “ground” floats about axle-height. “Good” is good. Perfect ain’t gonna happen (past testing in the same place, etc; consistent readings spaced apart in time).

If the mobile experience of others counter what I’ve written, I’ll bow to theirs. Mines limited per Sideband concerns.

If it's AM it's really unusual. Drift from cold to hot is up frequency, not down. I've never seen before radio drifting down freq from cold to warm.

I've never had a counter, and the one ssb radio (Emporer ts-5010) that I had 25+ years ago is the only ssb rig I've had. Which now makes me wonder why Ranger put one in an AM rig........
