chinese made cobra cb radios?

Can't forget them, I have the Dragon tape deck and have for years. It's a shame that now they are only a name.

Like Ford, General Electric, and a long list of others?

No, there’s no shame attached to a false entity dying.

What we need from music has no connection to electricity. Another false entity.

Hearts, Hands, and Voices (are that which is real. Not substitution).

I

If I'm not mistaken, all of those have gone to an encoder. The encoder isn't so simple to replace with the normal channel selector either as you'd have to have the whole pcb and wiring. I'm not so sure if the wiring is even the same. Best bet is to get an old radio to replace that one or get used to the encoder.
Well I scored an "old" new china C25 with a real selector for cheap. 2014 vintage.

Its unmessed with and in OK shape. All is good in the world now I can channel surf and have the expected audible and tactile feedback.

It looks like these later radios already have schottky diodes in them so I don't think there is really anything to do with it on the RX side other then a good alignment? :coffee:

TR1 looks like a ST2sc1674 https://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/281222/SEMTECH_ELEC/ST2SC1674.html

And the diodes BAT85's

I would disagree with this when it comes to vintage stereo equipment. From 1975-1985 Japan built some of the best stereo stuff ever made. And most all of it still works today.

About the saying about "Made in Japan Garbage in the 70's"... Vintage HiFi is a world full of snobby, often rich, "couch quarterback" types, with huge ego's and very nastily opinionated folks. Those old Japan HiFi units were supreme, yes. No argument there.

About the SAYING from the 70's. I think this referred to most of the consumer electronics, I know it did to Amateur Radio products. Going from a tanky Heathkit or Collins, Johnson, or whatever USA made 50's, 60's rig to a Yaesu FT-101 type rig is where I am familiar with the "SAYING". We may all think Yaesu 101's are nice, neat, rugged, etc, and compared to a lot of junk that was made after the 70's, it is great. But those cantankerous old Hams, they weren't having no "cheap" Japanese Made Transceiver, BACK THEN. Now they are stuck with China crap. Oh the Irony.

This isn't correct. Uniden informed Cobra they were through making their radios. Cobra then partnered with Ranger I believe?

Either way Cobras ceased to use Uniden designs and the level of quality went with it.

From what I could find Cobra is now owned by Cedar Electronics. Didn't find who's actually does the manufacturing but I don't think it's Ranger. Ranger's quality is on a higher level than any of the late model Cobras, IMO.

Wish I could find the website that back my statement but found it through many multi linking sites and I didnt think enough to save it. It did list Ranger Communications as the manufacturer of new Cobra radios.
But I have no proof as I am struggling to locate that page again.

Yeah I don't believe it's ranger making them as the cobras are made in China. Ranger once long ago did have some built in China but that was early 2000's. However, ranger did make the 148 for a short stint and it was evident due to some of the components they used. The newer or newish cobras share nothing internal with anything ranger.
