AT-6666 MOBILE

Suddenly, my AT-6666 has no sound though the speakers on AM/FM modes. Works fine on SSB modes.
No idea how that happened. Squelch knob is all the way to zero/no/nil/nada/none/no way, Jose squelch setting.
Put it on a channel on SSB, audio out the speaker. Push the mode button to AM or FM, no sound out the speaker. It receives according to the S meter bars. Can't hear a thing.

Strange, have you tried to reset it?

Do you have CTC board? Why? Well if it's enabled, someone has to "open" it when it detects the proper coded tones. That affects AM and FM modes...

Auto Squelch function may be on.

Well, can you move to Australia
Venezuela?
South Sandwich islands?
Antarctica?
(...any Southern Hemispheric location?...)

Toilets spin backwards and flush-up On that side of the planet - operating it down there might fix the Squelch too!

Only all the other knobs will be backwards to it...but at least Squelch might work right!

Are ya'll ready for this?
Squelch knob operates backward to the radios I've used for years. All the way counter clockwise is maximum Squelch. Stupid. . . perhaps the radio, maybe me.

So MAX CCW is not max squelch; it is "ASQ-01~09". Max CW is max squelch (SQL-36). Max CCW is ASQ which is settable from 01~09 w/ default of 05. When you turn your SQ knob, it will show you the level of squelch you are in. To get to "no squelch", you have to go to 9:30~10:00 on the knob to get out of ASQ. The squelch readout will just say "SQL". As you go further CW, it will then indicate "SQL-01;02;03; etc. all the way up to SQL-36 at full CW.

I don't like it. I would rather have it as full CW is "no squelch" but the ASQ feature is a gimmick they use to sell the radio.

Well. Whatever fancy stuff it is, all the way CCW and there is no sound on AM/FM. Same on all the way CW. Don't matter if it's called English Peas, what matters is it is kinda worthless, unless you like left-handed floaties.

Uniden ( president) has used ASC for many years in past models, there way to do it was to put a detent in the squelch fully ccw.
Turn left until it clicks and that was auto squelch on, past that cw and it work as normal squelch.
You can set the Auto squelch level in the menu on the quad 6 and about 9/10 o'clock it drops out of asc and goes back to manual squelch.
I like the detent better but its not there on this version of asc.

Try setting your ASQ to "01" which is the least amount of squelch. If you have a high enough noise floor level, it won't be squelched when you turn it full CCW.

Hopefully, they will add the ability to turn it off in the next version. It would be very easy (off-09). You can already turn off the clarifier.

I actually find the ASQ kinda handy on the 6666. I have mine set at 5 and it works good when monitoring ch19 AM. Hit the EMG button and I go to 38LSB and squelch is gone for listening for possible DX. This radio is pretty easy to use in the big truck. I do wish it had the option to program 60 channels per band like the Quad 5 that I have. Biggest drawback is the echo adjustments inside are a major PIA to adjust! Oh well.............

You can effectively "disable" the ASC function in the service menu. Ch 14. 15, and 16 deal with the ASC.

v3 Service Menu = Hold down PTT + Menu + Mode and power ON Write initial value down before changes otherwise your going to cry when it’s broken.

Default settings:
Ch 14 asqon 0112
Ch 15 asqoff 0267
Ch 16 asc 0587

Lowering the value of 14 and 15 will effectively disable ASQ.

Now when you turn the Squelch full CCW, the display will say ASQ but it will be "off".
