Good evening, do anyone on the forum know any tech that works on tube amplifiers, preferably a mobile unit. I received this unit in a trade. It has power wiring coming out the back but no connectors. And the screws are missing out of the cabinet. They said it worked but I need someone to go through it. However, is it worth the money?

Your thoughts...

However, is it worth the money?
No.

That's the short answer. This is a question that comes up from time to time. Frequently it turns out the next question is "Why?".

A mobile amplifier built with tubes is old. Transistors moved in and took over the market decades ago. And for good reason. They're many times more efficient, both on power consumption and money consumption. Restoring old tube tech is never cheap.

I compare fixing up a mobile tube linear to using a 1908 steam tractor to mow your lawn. Sure, you could given enough time and money. But more efficient methods have been developed over the last 124 years. This is why none of your neighbors do it that way.

The only good reason I know would be if you're just in love with the idea. Just remember, true love is never cheap.

I worked on tube amplifiers, but them mobiles have that funky power supply,
to convert the 12 VDC to high voltages needed. So if too much work to repair,
I take the tubes out, and any good variable capacitors, and throw the rest out.
Maybe you have a "Pal" or "Palomar" amp.

No.

I appreciate the information. I will trade it or sell it to someone who wants the project.

Thanks
