I am wanting to get my licence very soon. I want a 2meter radio and am looking at these two in the subject of this post.

Can I get opinions and advice here?
thanks,
Roger

I had a FT-2800. It's a SWEET 2M rig! I only sold mine because I wanted a dual band/dual rx. The FT-8800 is a GREAT dualbander if you ever decide you want more than just 2M.

the FT-2800M is only 139.95 and the TM271A is 169.99 so if they are close in performance and reliability I should go fot the cheaper radio.

Airplane1 both radios are great 2m rigs, You would be happy with either one. It's up to you to research both radios to see which one fits your wants/needs. BTW if it was me i'd go with the yaesu ft-2800.Good luck & good DXin
