Cheap Mobile Radios

I've had a Galaxy DX2547 setup for a few years now and I'm thinking of a cheap mobile radio to throw in the car to chat between "Home Base" and "Car 1" But I'm stuck on the cheap ones to get. I figured that I might get a 510Pro at 1 stop with a peak and tune to raise the power and get some extra distance out of it, But as I was browsing through Amazon I saw a few other radios that might do the job but I wanted to know what any of you guys thought might be a better canidate. I dont need the all the do-dads of a quailty as I just want to spend maybe $40 on radio itself.
I saw the Midland Minituare 1000 with a few other midlands, cobra 19 and others, and the Uniden 510 with a few of their lower price models
Which radio would be a good one? Any other models/brands than above?
Any info greatly appreciated

A basic cobra 25 or uniden 68 would be cool. A 510 is a decent rig too.. Another small basic rig you might want to check out is a Ranger tr121 or a Cobra 21ltd. They are both small compact decent radios. If you go with a cheaper cobra like a19 or 18 of any kind you WILL have problems with them.... LOTS of bad cracked solder joints.
Alot of guys will undoubtedly give you a list of alot of radios to check out. I like a Ranger tr121 or cobra25. I had a really small cobra 21ltd (might have been a 20ltd) it was a small thin basic radio that was built solid. I was able to get some decent power out of it for its size.

Lots of radios out there... if you wantd a basic sidebander, somed of the cheaper galaxies are cool.

Give it some time and check out what other recommend

You can skimp on the radio Chris , but I would suggest at least a good performing antenna . The 510 will work fine with a tune with it's 1000 ohm mic. I will agree on the newer 19s having all kinds of solder joint problems , it's really to bad because they put out some good power and audio ,and receive is quiet because of built in noise blankers (maybe to quiet) the old 19 pluses were very decent radios.(plastic covers) Chris ? You want a better then you could get for the prices today radio ? let me know ,I have a Realistic 427 in very good condition (same as the 25 and the 66/68) ,tuned 5 to 20 pep with 100% modulation with no clip for 50.00 shipped Priority if you might be interested. Bracket/knobs/stock mic/cig lighter power cord. Just trying to help both our causes. Let me know if you might want it.I doubt you could do much better then this for the money Chris. Peace
