He started with a empty case and a idea

Next, he rounded up the parts, four 572b Tubes, High Voltage transformer, filament transformer, rectifiers, filter caps, plate choke, tube sockets, coils and other assorted parts.

Tubes mounted, DC blocking Cap (Doorknob) and tuning Variable visible in lower right corner, isolation transformer for relay control and tube bias in upper left corner.

paws, what happened man!?

i was really looking forward to seeing this one finished.

a 4x572b amp is my ultimate project amp, and with a bunch of these detailed pics, and a parts list, i know i can do it.

also, need more pics of the rectifier board.
both sides please.

thanks!

He and I both have been involved in in things that have temporarly pulled us away from construction; I just saw him this evening and he's gonna send me some updated progress pics.

He got tired of his "old" set of drums and decided to construct himself a new set from scratch.

This is the old set.

This is before he put the .01 uf bypass caps on each diode; he stood the 30K ohm next to the caps, each capacitor has a 30k resistor in parallel with it.

The resistors act as bleeders when powered off and they balance the voltage across the caps when the supply is running.

i think i see one of his new drum shells in the very first pic!
very cool,
im a guitar player, and i like rebuilding those kinds of amps too.
just did an Acoustic 60gt.
2 6l6's.

thanks for the new pic.
cant wait to see more,

Paw's I'm gonna have to get you some updated pictures. hell, I have the panel meters set, varibles in place "need to dip the coil" Filament transformer wired in as well as the choke, isolation transformer for bias is in place, tubes are now mounted vertically, Rectifier/filter board mounted. We need to get together and wire up/fire up this thing up soon. Really not much left to do.

i look at those four tubes, but i cant help think of Tony's first rule for tubes: Tubes are like women... If you feel that you must have two, keep them in separate houses, and don't let them know about each other. If one isn't good enough for you, get a better one. In other words, if one tube isn't enough for you, don't run two, get a bigger tube!

I wonder if that means if one women isn't enough for me, i shouldn't get two women, i should get a bigger woman?!?!

It would be too easy just to use one tube and then I would have to pay for it. Other than the transformer it's a parts amp. Believe me this has been well thought out before any money was spent.
BTW, Greg you still building?

I honestly agree with you and Tony's rule. I think the same rule should apply to transistor amps. 32 and 64 transistors amps just do not make sense to me or even 16 for that matter. I guess it make sense building them because the class exist at keydowns but having all that power AC available i would have a tube for everyday use.
hey all have a super fine one,
