The 2200 has a RF squelch as well as a regular squelch,it overrides the regular squelch from a sub menu that is 2 or 3 layers deep in one of the main menus..The RF squelch acts kind of like a RF gain,the higher you turn up the squelch the more it cuts back the signal. I have a 2200 H as well...

The 2900 does have a FM Narrow setting,but for listening that is not a requirement,you will be able to hear them just fine,they might sound a bit pinched but very readable I set my 2900 radios to a 5khz tuning step so I dont jump past a signal I might want to listen in on

If it were me getting a 2900 radio,spend the extra few dollars and buy from a retailer like HRO,Gigaparts,Ham Radio Outlet, Associated Radio just to name a few,you will get a warrenty if you buy from one of those dealers and they actually do have customer service I have bought two 2900 radios...

I simply refuse to go to that site even for a look at it...I will just pay my fine and take my chances
