CK that is a very good point...wish my cobweb filled brain would have noticed this before I posted....
About a month ago I talked to a guy that was in a commercial jet on 17 meters ,the planes HF radio antenna is in the leading edge of the rudder and covered by a plastic or maybe rubber as...
My experience with painting an antenna ...I personally have not done so but I do see antennas painted various colors. My 2 meter Larsen mobile antenna has a black stinger from the factory...has it effected the performance? I dont think so...swr is all but flat at set frequency and under a 1.5 to...
I have never given any serious thought to joining any amateur radio club/group as in most all cases it has been a bad experience.
Since I have been a member of this forum I have to say that it has been overall a good run with good people that are more than happy to share their knowlage with...
I would say go with the mobile radio.Alot better range with it over the HT.The ht has its place but it is very limited for range, even with an external antenna.
I have 2 of the 2900 rigs and love them !! The 2900 has a great receive on it and is easy to program.Get a decent antenna for either...
Back years ago I had a 641 and 625 Royce with a d-104 desk mic that worked without any issues at all...bought the mic new and wired it up
I dont remember any details off hand, that was 30+ years ago
Nice grouping !! the 77/22 is a very nice little rifle.
I have the 77 mk2 7 mag and I LOVE it !!
Take a hard look at the 17hmr rifle...if you like the 77/22 you will love the 17hmr
If the antenna will load up on ten meters....RUN IT !!
I used to have a Moonraker 4 ,when I tuned it for 27.450 the gamma match still had a couple of inches of travel to it ,at least....I am willing to bet it would tune the lower part of ten without any trouble at all...
Just because that...
99% of the people out there run a mobile radio with a power supply ..You will spend less money doing that and get the same results as using a radio that is plug into the wall and play...
355 if you are wanting to work some skip SSB mode would be the way to go,you can work the world from a mobile with just 100 watts without to much trouble, not to mention you stand a better chance of finding some good people to talk to. Or better yet get a ham radio general class ticket and have...
You wont get 20 watts out of a HT within itself, that thing would melt in your hand, the one I have gets pretty warm after just a few minutes of talking....the only way you would get 20+ watts from a handheld would be to add an amp and a mobile antenna
there are amps out there that has a low power input ...2 to 5 watts in and will put out up to 100 watts or maybe even better depending on the model of amp...it has been a while since I have looked at any 2 meter amps....Mirage makes them if I remember right
I agree with CK....NEVER use a gas line as a ground for ANYTHING.....should something go wrong or get a lightening strike you could very well find yourself picking up your station from all over the area you live in,or find yourself scattered all over the area you used to live in
I have been playing on 17 meters the past few days when I can,and that band has been open till after 9 PM central time...hopefully that will climb up to 10 meters as well :thumbup1:
Handhelds do have their place ,but they are very limited as to their range unless you live in a city where there is a few machines within the city limits.
If you are like me and live in the backwoods you will be lucky to have 1 or 2 machines within range ( this is my case )....
But I did...
Alot of people will make up a set of numbers kind of like a call sign or handle.
I personally used numbers instead of a handle when i was on CB...one of those personal choice deals
I had an 86 Ford f 150 pickup that had a serious noise problem,as long as the truck was shut off it was all good, but start up the truck and it was really bad.I ended up putting a filter in line on the power wire for the radio and that took care of it....
