Any of those antennas are good performers,take your time and look over the specs for each antenna again and go with what you feel will work for your install

if that radio has a audio compression system,might want to turn it off or down.Sometimes that will give AM audio a fit if it is set to high or turned on

I wouldnt really think how high the antenna was/is would make much difference at those low frequencies .I would think the length would be more important .I hear of people running antennas at 10 feet off the ground and doing fine with that...along the top of a fence maybe...

Since you are only listening the simple answer is get as much wire in the air as possable ...... and a preamp might help as well MFJ makes some SW listening preamps that are not to high dollar

Welcome to the board !! The radios you have are good little rigs...and SSB mode will be a huge help in your contact range....Look into getting different antennas when able,the Wilson antennas mentioned above would be good ones to use. Also be sure to set the swr on the antennas as well,you...

I have the Comet sma503 ..I have done a test with it and a factory FT 60 antenna,the 503 does seem to work a bit better .... .Used a repeater that was fringe area for my location ,had it just a bar or so under half scale on the handheld,put the 503 on and it came up about 2 bars or so on the...

it is starting to open up again.... hearing a strong station at 18140 V-47-GIW on St Kitts Island

I am hearing Russia on 17 meters...weak but they are in there....one on 18.150 now making calls
