fan dipole installed correctly works pretty good.
solar cycle is running strong now so about anything that will lump a signal out will work.
With a fan you can tailor where the antenna is resonant at for what portion of the band you want to work.
OCF you sort of use what you have a touch up...
vertical dipole.
As CK mentioned feed the coax through the bottom element
copper, emt conduit works great also.
at end of bottom element wrap an ugly choke or 1:1 balun.
"Reference gainmaster antenna for the rf choke"
I prefer rg6 or rg11 for coax to a dipole.
Better vswr match, broader band...
Beast of an old dinosaur.
Input tune? four 572b present a decent input impedance on all bands.
Check the grid bias resistors, 33 or 35 ohm, cant really remember.
definite replace the electrolytic caps, rectifier diodes.
If the tubes are soft, excellent candidate to drop a couple Russian triodes in.

Great rigs, any upgrades?
New back lighting changed to LED lamps? the old tube lamp has reached end of life easy to fail.
Has back up battery been replaced?
How is the internal tuner? Another high failure item.
No mention what filters are installed in the rig.
Any mods beside 11 meter...
Sitting here counting the numbers on my fingers.
With parts, transformers being crazy expensive. even solder prices up 30%.That is a deal.
Any cooling on the filament pins? I cant tell from pictures.
TS-440.
Dreaded DOT syndrome.Much info on the net.
PLL out of lock, if I remember correctly there is 4 or 5 pll in the 440.
The compound, wax looking stuff, Kenwood used to stabilize components in the PLL section turns corrosive after a few decades.
Starts corroding component leads and traces...
BEST height depends on how high you want to go and what the Wife , neighbors, and budget will tolerate.
most like to go one wavelength AGL 36'(ft.) for 11 meters.
27mhz is line of sight for local comms. higher is better for Local talk.
DX, mother nature is deciding factor for that. Whole...
Watching my Grandma talk on her Robyn base station, the glow of the tubes, the conversations and the amazing thought that sound travels through the air.
I asked so many questions to gma about how it worked. I was amazed.
Spent my adult life repairing, training, and teaching comms and...
How is the plate current ?
How is the high voltage?
Does the amplifier draw any plate current unkeyed?
Keyed?
Tubes or faulty metering circuit but hard to suggest what it could be without knowing more information.
