    Add this to your toolbox!

I have been eyeballing the tweezer ones mainly to remove SMD caps off old game consoles like the Super NES or the 1990s computer boards like the Commodore Amiga or Macintosh computers.

In case you're wondering if you should remove the glue...

It was back in 2017 I bought some voltage regulators for the Cobra 142 GTL radios I had... I bought some and they turned out to be new old stock. I have been meaning to buy some more, but unsure where there is a reliable new old stock on eBay.

In case you're wondering if you should remove the glue...

I know but ive grinded away at a broken off pin just enough to get some of it barely showing shiny, then managed to get it to stick and use a wire. You at least have some bite to go into. you may be able to dremel from the top of it near the pin to expose more.

In case you're wondering if you should remove the glue...

It looks very bad, but can you grind away at that right area so it might show up some shiny to the pin? Then throw some flux on it and see if you can get it to stick to a wire. Least to try and save its life.

    Uniden PC78 Elite Troubleshooting

For what its worth, today I was messing with my Uniden PC78LTW that was from 1994. That one has a 2166 final in it on the back. You can usually grab a multi meter and probe any of the 3 legs to see if there is a direct short between the legs. (I believe its best to desolder the legs off the...

    Galaxy 350 amplifier

With a 10 watt swing on SSB, the Magnum 2000 and the Palomar Skipper easily does 100 watts on Low/150 on Medium/200 on high, and 250 on Max. I kept my AM deadkey at 1.5 watts with an 8 watt sing. I need to check those readings sometime as I only did it while I was on SSB.

    Magnum 2000 resistor repair.

Before I forget, here is a picture of the new screws next to the old ones. The lock washers I bought are 7/64" in size #4-40 off eBay. Screw length is 1/4.

    Magnum 2000 resistor repair.

Been busy, but I am happy to report back... Replacing the 4 resistors did the trick. :) Thanks to Nomad for the screw thread sizes, they worked like a charm. (The one hole that had that broken off screw, one did go back in, but at a slightly different angle, but not too extreme. Probably the...

Been away and ready to get up and running.

Gool ol PC 76XL radios. I think I only have 2 of those floating somewhere in the garage. Might be a good candidate for me to put out in the mobile for a good AM radio. (I currently have a PC68XL in there, but needs to be brought back inside for some attention.) I have fun on AM just as much as...

Unit 399 JJ in Medellin Colombia

Its been quite fun running the Realistic TRC-449. Something that needs to happen for this radio is recapping it. I did replace that one tantalum in the back years ago for a 50v, but other then that I dont think ive recapped it.

    Uniden pc68xl help

To confirm, Yes, JV17 is the jumper that is the same as J36 on a Cobra 29 etc.. :) I uploaded 2 pictures. The 2 circles in each picture is the ground point on the actual circuit board. The yellow arrow you pointed to, is a chassis ground, which I would not tap into. So you have either choice...

    Uniden pc68xl help

Let me go look in my PC68XL to have a look underneat. Honestly, if its a ground point, you are golden and ready to go. Will come back with a picture underneath of what that one is you are pointing to.

    Uniden pc68xl help

It should definitely work. The green wire that comes off the module is just going to a ground point, but the same exact spot of where it gets installed still holds true. :)

What year and why did you get into the Radio Hobby?

It didnt occur to me how CB radios were priced in the 1970s compared to today's electronics until recently... Getting a sidebander radio you had to pay a nice chunk of change.

What year and why did you get into the Radio Hobby?

To pinpoint it would be difficult, but me being born in the mid 1980s, I think the first CB radio I seen was the Sears Roadtalker 40 channel AM radio, (Slant Face, but non-SSB). He put the radio in his late 1970s Ford F150 Ranger truck. From there on out, I was hooked listening on in. This had...

Unit 399 JJ in Medellin Colombia

Ugh.... I wasn't here for long on the forums, but he chimed in recently about which good amps to pick when I posted.... Because of him, I am on the lookout for those TX 250 and 350 amps built in the 1980s. Rest in Radio Paradise 399. Please tell my Elmer Gordon K7NNV I said hello.... :/
