Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

After al these years nothing has changed, The vector 4000 still provides better signals than other antenna on the same pole regardless of them been properly isolated on fiberglass tube/rod & choked at the feedpoint with a good choke or not, For me and every other user that puts one up in this...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

That sounds ok for where you live but not good for us here , I am the only person local that has the room to put an antenna over a reasonably large groundplane, it would not see over the obstructions. interesting article, are these guys partly responsible for mininec ?, The article also says...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

I may be reading the article wrong but it mentions infinite perfect conducting groundplane which is what the 5/8wave proponents use to bolster their claims of gain for a radiator with 1/8wave of deconstructive radiation, Having a super efficient ground mounted antenna is OK in some situations...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

IF when you sweep the radials up towards the monopole & observe resonant frequency rise while impedance drops necessitating a gamma feed at that radial spacing due to the capacitance between radials & monopole & that increases loss, Why is it that the 4 radial versions using the same...

    Reversed LCD Mod, Lincoln II

My buddy down the road from me has been splitting the screen sandwich & reversing the polarising filter in handies, lincolns, emperors & icom 706mk2g's for many years, yes its tricky you can crease the film or break the screen, looks good but I would not risk it myself.

    Anyone metal detect?

If I was closer to Mudfoot I could see what all the fuss is about with the F-pulse/Tek-point & he could check out My Nox, Carl Moreland designed F-pulse & Whites TRX, another deep pinpointer that has a rep for falsing, I thought they fixed the F-pulse/Tek-points with the version 2 software...

    Anyone metal detect?

Mudfoot have you tried the software update for the APEX, its suppoosed to calm them down & improve depth & tones I had a garrett pro pointer & had to repair it, been using a Nokta pointer for a couple of years, very well made but not very deep, I just bought another pinpointer a couple of...

    Anyone metal detect?

My detecting buddy swapped from simplex to Vanquish & likes it, We have compared many dozens of targets & it gives the same id numbers as my Nox almost every time, I run with iron audio on but turned way down so its audible but not annoying & I love 50 tones, once you get used to it there's...

    Anyone metal detect?

Mudfoot, imho the Nox is probably the best all rounder available right now, its deep & fast, fairly simple menu, id numbers are a bit compressed at the low end of the scale compared to what im used to, I love the 50 tones, its musical, never going back, For the kind of detecting I do I would...

    Anyone metal detect?

I use an Equinox 800 with the stock 11" coil & 6" coil for trashy sites, sold the 15" x12" coil, too big for the kind of places I detect, For 30+ years I was a Whites man & dabbled in fishers.

Loud wolf printed circuit board etch does not work.

If loudwolf sell it as pcb etching solution & you mix it at the right concentration it should work, something must be stopping it working for some people, It could be your water that's no good especially if its got iron in it, I use Ferric Chloride in distilled water & it never fails to work...

Loud wolf printed circuit board etch does not work.

What kind of water are you making the solution with?, its best to use distilled water for etching solution so contaminants don't react with the persulfate & reduce its concentration, also scrub the pcb with Scotch-Brite or similar abrasive pad to remove any oxidation grease & fingerprints.

    Linear Fans?

I once smoked a 6" aluminum sunon fan, It was choked & caps close to the fan motor & had worked perfect for weeks then something happened when we were out foxhunting & it let the smoke out big time, had to jump on the brakes & bail out of the car it was so bad, lots of acrid poisonous smelling...

Megawatt Power Supply Spewing Noise on Portions of HF

I have owned switchmode supplys from £5 phone chargers to £5000 3kw lab psu's that make any ham supply look like a pos toy, One expensive supply went back to the factory for a filter kit installing that helped but did not eliminate the noise, They all emit some rfi regardless of what people...

    Really annoying roger beeps

There is an equation for calculating rodger beeps that I have used for over 30 years, I found it to be accurate enough for general use. "Beep duration is proportional to the size of the cavity between the ears & inversely proportional to the length of the penis behind the mic" (y)

    You drove your Mazda where?

I used to do cb fox hunting with my buddy in a stock landrover defender 90, He put a snorkle& lift kit & polybushes on it & some stupid wide wheels & tyres that got him noticed by the police because they stuck out further than the bodywork by a few inch & sprayed crap everywhere, He put arch...
