When I did one I just wrapped the wire around it until I got the antenna resonant, then soldered it.
My low height inverted vee supported by a 8'6" avi probe, dipole is for 20 mr. Numerous contact NA as well as NZ on 1 occassion.
I would wrap the wire around the ring so adjustment can be made, then solidify it once tuned. I use copper tubing and soldered once tuned.

I scaled everything down. For 2 meter it was several attempts at the ring before I was happy.
I've made a couple, for 10 and 2 metres. I scaled to the frequency which seemed to work.
I would like to add. Depending on assembly method, there maybe large amounts of bonding needed.
At most for SOTA I may throw a /P for portable behind my CS, or if operating outside my licence area W7 etc.
You want the vertical elements off of the ground some. My sota 1 is about 42" off of the ground which is alittle low but for the terrain is ok....

If you have room for that, then try a Half Square. But get the vertical portion to at least 22'.
