New Galaxy DX2547 Radios Produce Buzzing Sound

*The L is plugged into the + lead at the 120VAC outlet *The N is plugged into the Neutral lead at the 120VAC outlet *The Ground is plugged into the Ground lead at the 120VAC outlet. The neutral and ground are not bonded at the outlet. They are bonded at the panel. After you asking that, just to...

New Galaxy DX2547 Radios Produce Buzzing Sound

I have purchased a “genuine” MeanWell power supply from Amazon. I will receive on Wednesday. I will install and report back. Also, received showed -12db on the sinad at -112dbm on AM so that’s good.

New Galaxy DX2547 Radios Produce Buzzing Sound

Radio: Galaxy dx2547 Serial # Series 2401xxxx Two tested: #24010008 & #24010041 I had a customer complain about a buzzing sound produced by a new Galaxy dx2547. It only does it when using the internal power supply, not when on DC. He returned it and I can confirm he the noise is there...

Share your useful testing apps, I'll start

I have used the tone generator in a pinch. Normally I’ll use my Rigol on the bench. The other thing I’ve used is CommTekk’s SINAD. Unfortunately, it’s not a “smartphone” or “tablet” tool or ap. But, it does a good job as a receiver alignment tool. On my main bench, I’ll use my old SINADDER 3...

    Quad 6 or RCI 2970?

Hands down the quad5N2. Much nicer screen, easy to read, less quirks. Also, it is much more stable on sideband than both of the other radios. The 2970 would be the least stable, followed by the Q6, and then the Q5. The Q6 is not bad but when the temp in your vehicle changes, the Q6 isn’t nearly...

Home Quansheng UV-K5 Full Band HD Modification

The one thing that is interesting to me is the Hf ssb. What I’m wondering is if it’s even in frequency. I mean, there’s no clarifier at all.

    RM Italy KL 503 Crunchy

Never experienced that after doing this mod. Fortunately, you can buy the HD version, now. Presumably the HD version has no driver? That is correct. [edit] Actually, no. That’s incorrect. The driver is still there. I believe they’ve attenuated the input. I don’t understand why they just...

    RM Italy KL 503 Crunchy

100% there is a lot of input swr with this mod unfortunately, I’ve tried tweaking the coils with no success so far. Never experienced that after doing this mod. Fortunately, you can buy the HD version, now.

Texas Star DX350 - SSB delay causing loss in power output

Am signal didn’t look too bad when the AM (attenuation) button was pressed. Only 3w carrier and 9w pep input. Slightly under modulated. I’d recommend 2.5w carrier and 10w pep. Very efficient amp. The original post questioned why the ssb dropped the rf power. As mentioned by several, the ssb...

Texas Star DX350 - SSB delay causing loss in power output

Thanks for that. We will see what happens with various input level and a two-tone signal. I figured there had to be something to that. It doesn’t make any sense, whatsoever, to make the switch a “dual-purpose” switch unless they have good reason.

Texas Star DX350 - SSB delay causing loss in power output

It appears I can jump pins 2&3 to get full power w/ ssb delay active. Will be trying that. Thanks for the help.

Texas Star DX350 - SSB delay causing loss in power output

Thanks, Jeff. The initial poster of Thank you, Jeff. It sure is an awkward design. It appears I can simply bypass the ssb delay (and accompanied resistor) by adding a jumper between pin 2&3 on that gang. This will give me full power but also give me a delay at all times. I can install a toggle...

Texas Star DX350 - SSB delay causing loss in power output

35 Watt input SSB to Taxes Star DX350 @ 13.8v. 338 Watts Peak Envelope Power. Working perfectly. However, once the sideband delay is pressed on the amp, power is cut down 100 watts. Similar issue w/ AM carrier. 3W input=140w out (seems high) When AM button is pressed, power drops. I just...

    SR-Stryker 955HPC v2 and a amp

First, I would never run the radio with a low drive amp. A low drive amp is one that has a driver inside to run the final section ie the 1x4. You can run that stryker with your dx400. There is no reason you can’t put a 5 watt dead key into that amp. People always talk about 1 watt dead key and...
