How many times have you read that comment? :bdh: When new guys buy a 40 channel AM/SSB radio with a good antenna setup and has trouble making contacts, the first thing they are told is to "keep trying, I've worked the world on 100w or less". But what these people are comparing is a 12w ssb CB...

I always use the New Post button but there doesn't appear to be a way to make threads that I've read disappear from that list except for manually clicking "Mark Forums Read". Is there a setting that I'm missing that automatically marks forums read as forums read?

After poking around a bit, I wound up on McMaster Carr's website and found these "Oldham" type, zero backlash couplers. They're only 1/2" diameter with a 5/8" stack height. They only had acetal or nylon discs available, so I got the nylon, but teflon would be better IMO. Either way, they work...

If you had a transformer in one building, and an amplifier in another, where would you rectify the current? Would you rectify it at the tranformer and send off the DC, or would you pipe in the AC and rectify at the amp? I can see pros-cons for both, but what keeps sticking out in my mind...

Is there an advantage of one over the other for the heater voltage?

I'm sure that this is not too difficult, but are there any recommended quicker/cleaner methods of removing the heat sink compound from a radio? It looks like they just slather this stuff on with a paint brush, but while I have this 2970 apart I am replacing all of the compound with more...

Has anybody used this stuff? I've read of the braid creating a higher impedance than a solid or even stranded conductor. It definitely looks easier to work with, but it wouldn't be worth it at the cost of performance.
