    Cobra 148GTL mods?

None of the above posts are correct. I am sorry but with the correct engineering changes by someone who knows what they are doing the radio can perform very well.

    Think you've seen it all?

That's just ridiculous, can't be for real.

Wilson 5000 - How broad banded?

In a "real world" situation, I agree with Moleculo. I have experienced this first hand.

    Class A bias amp

Ok first of all there is no "class AB1 or AB2" biasing for a bipolar, solid state amplifier. AB-1 and AB-2 are used to describe the element of a *tube* that is biased with respect to another element in a tube. When referring to a solid state amplifier, there are of course, different classes...

How to perform the 2sc2999 and Schottky diode swap

He is correct. I must say like it or not, this mod does nothing but bring up the gain in the front end of the radio where you don't want it and it's still a bipolar transistor. For parts changers to feel that they have accomplished something, it is a free country, so go for it. However, for true...

Wilson 5000 - How broad banded?

I think the best idea going, use two different whips, one centered for 11M and one centered for the portion of 10M that you want to operate on.

    receive on president madison

After you re-cap it, you are going to need to realign it again. Also the type of capacitors in the audio chain make a big difference. So if you are going to re-cap it, why not use tantalum capacitors in the audio section, and also change a few values to tailor the RX audio?

For your needs from what you are saying I would recommend the 897D

    Construction of 140W PEP EB63 amplifier + Low-Pass Filters

Excellent and very nice! Another thought is gain compensation if you plan to use this on a few different bands which would be apparent from the use of your several low pass filters.

Low receive audio on TS 50S

Sir, are you comfortable working on the radio? If so, I can help you out and point you right to the problem. If you have good soldering skills, a steady hand, and a fine tip soldering iron we can get it back up and running...no problem.

    m250

There were several versions of this amplifier produced. The only way to know if it is a messenger or a good clone is to see what it looks like on the inside. Are you able to pull the cover and post some pictures?

Weak tubes, amplifier tuned incorrectly, improper plate voltage or problem with plate supply, improper load, tube oscillation, or bad bias.

Cobra 142 GTL, lots of issues

My first guess was going to be a shorted capacitor in the RF track, however, if the radio has output this would not be the case. It is possible that the radio is off frequency by a few KCs
