If u just cut the red wire thats not gonna do it.. All your doing is killing power to the beep.. BUT the beep has to have power going to it or the radio wont key up as the transmit wire runs thru the roger beep..
Look at the beep... Undo the red, black, white, and green wire fom the radio... U...
USUALLY... on a cobra if the audio chip is bad then it will not have receive audio.. One quick test is to check voltage on the first and last leg of the audio chip... Should be around 13.8 on both ends...
I would check mic and check for cold solder joints... Also might want to clean the mic...
If your radio has talkback *which it sounds like it does* then that is most likely your source of feedback, especially with the power mic.. You can try lowering your talkback level down some or you can put the talkback on a switch and just turn it off...OR you can pull the talkback completely...
In my opinion....IF the meter works fine on both transmit and receive then there is NOTHING wrong with the meter. DON'T go turning on the screws on the meter if its woking on TX and RX.. You can and most likely mess the meter up..

Pull the covers off of the radio....On the solder side of the board right besides the audio chip *between the audio chip and front of radio* there is a transistor mounted to the side like the audiochip.. The transistor is either a 2sc1012 or a 473 cant remeber the number...But it should be...
Adam....Why would he put the MFJ 259b on the coax going to the back antenna?...On a front ant. hot, back antenna grounded there should be NO coax going to the back antenna..
