Hi, I haven't posted here in a long time. In fact I've got my electronics tech degree since the last time I spoke. Some of you may remember my annoying biasing questions as I couldn't wrap my head around it.
I know there has to be a thread with some info on what can be done to improve these...
Hi everyone, it's been a whole since I posted. I have a couple questions about my base setup aND these mosfets everyone's using now.
I'm using a magnum 257hp threw about 60 feet of very low loss thick coax I bought from a ham site (can't remember) into my sirio gain master mounted almost to...
Hi everyone. I'm working on setting up my base. Magnum 257hp 50ft of bury flex going into the attic with a falcon dipole in inverted v config. I've got the power supply, bird, and scope all setup and is looking good.
I've even got a arm boom stand and behringer condenser mic.
My question...
I just got this radio to set up my base. This is my first export. One thing I noticed is that the power is wide open on the low bands (band a) and low on j band. Do I need to tune it on the middle band? Or is this a typical compromise of these radios? I'm also running it into a salt water dummy...
When doing this typically which caps do I enlarge? Is 2.2uf really necessary, or can I just use 1uf? In this case in working on a galaxy. I know the .22uf going into the preamp but do I just follow the path to the audio chip?
How about in the modulator and in the rx line?
Hi everyone. I'm wanting to do something, I'm having trouble simulating due to simulator imperfections. I want to design a discrete 2 transistor regulator like this:
Problem is when I plug it into the simulator with a 50 ohm load the "regulating" part of the circuit doesn't show voltage...
These crappy radios suck.. we all know it.. none of the less I have one here in decent condition and I want to see how well I can get it to work.
In am I can't get the carrier any higher than 4 watts. This is not a problem for me, but in testing it seems like I should be able to peak it a...
Hi, I've been using mobile radios ssb for a while now from my truck. I'm kind of tired of running out to the truck to check for conditions + the fact that my mobile antenna is compromised compared to what I could do w a base. For a while I've been looking at the galaxy 2457 bc it is similar to...
Hello everyone, I decided to combine these 2 questions just to hear the opinions of smarter people than me.
Has anyone ever experimented with nfb on the final section of radios? I was watching a video about parasitic oscillations and fascinated me what might be happening that I can't see on my...
Has anyone figured a way to improve this feature ? I keep trying to get used to it but it's just too..... hmm can't find the word for it. It's like its too much of what ever it is that it's doing
Just got this mic and I love it!! Only problem is there is s little to much low for my voice. Is there a way to put a cap in line to get rid just a tiny bit?
I have a couple questions. When I turn my mobile amp OFF with my galaxy 959 it has a carrier on ssb and swings backward. When I turn the amp on it corrects it self. Is this due to coax length and swr? Or spurious emissions need to be tuned out? Thanks in advance!
Currently the only bird elements I have are 100 watt and 250 watt. After learning more about avg power I need a smaller slug to get more accurate reading. Can any one shed a little light on what might be more useful checking transmitters only? 10 or 25?
Hi, I've been looking at schematics from all of rangers radios including the 959, and every model uses a 220pf cap as a coupling cap from the pre driver to the first mosfet. My radio has a100pf cap.. why is this? Is this different from radio to radio? What happens if I raise this value?
I'm about to start tampering with compression on ssb. I know I typically have the "turn everything all the way up" syndrome but I'm trying to get out of this.
I want to have a simple, but not to complex way of viewing my levels, I was thinking about using the swr led 're wired to illuminate...
I notice in some of my radios the coils are slightly different and the caps are not consistent with schematic value. Is this an error on the manufacturer, or so they adjust these according to the radio. I would like to learn how to improve these circuits.
I believe the final is blown bc it is output 1 watt give or take but looks good on the scope still.
What is my best option? It's a new front Mic. I have several 2030 and 520s I only have the erf 1230?m can't remember, it's the one for cobra 29s. I also have a c1307, and a few 1969 that may...
The thought of npc seemed like a great idea to me. So I did the quick diode mod ppb my 959. I took it out immediately after seeing what it produced on the scope. What I noticed was a large carrier that I could only get so low with high peaks and very fast transition. The carrier was almost flat...
