Listening to the scanner in the midst of a title celebration

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh is entirely TOO cracka to have any DECENT riots - EVEN for a Stanley Cup. :p THURSDAY night might've been different, had we won at home - there were 20,000 people in the Consol, and 50k MORE outside it, but when you win on the road, you just get a buncha drunks...

    MST3k & ham radio!

Been busy four-wheeling the Ramcharger I spent 9 years resto-modding, which is why I haven't been here as much of late (the Galaxy 949/Fatboy combo works GREAT though!), but I saw this Saturday night, and it was TOO funny. Another BAD 1960's sci-fi movie (The Creeping Terror, 1964)got gored by...

Snow EMERGENCY in PA... & the CB is -

    - SILENT. I can remember 25-30 years ago down in the Charlotte area, when a 3" snowfall would set my radio on fire with traffic. Only 7" here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh this morning... ... but I've been scanning ONLY the CB frequencies on my BC355C scanner for 2 hours...

FOOD for thought, for the "cellular addicted." Homeland Security Conceals “Secret Plan to Cut Cell Service” During Emergencies Keep those Hams & CB's warm, just in case the alphabet agencies suddenly decide you DON'T need cell service... (n)

Calling the brain trust - WHO are THESE guys?!

Was over in eastern OH, and came across an ANCIENT, out-of-the-way truck stop. As gas in OH is $.30/gal. cheaper, I filled up there, but curiosity got the better of me; I HAD to see if they had CB gear! :D Well... they did... sorta... by someone I've NEVER heard of before. They had a COUPLE...

    Books for the bug-out bag

The new thread on "edible weeds" got me to thinking about this, so I thought I'd post it here. Two USEFUL - & nominally compact - books for the BoB that the WHOLE family can use, would be OLDER copies of the Boy Scout Handbook, and Boy Scout Fieldbook. I was a 37 year member of the BSA...

    USEFUL websites - INCLUDING COMMS!

Possibly the BEST overall site - and Rawles DOES cover COMMS, including Ham, CB, GMRS, and others - is Jim Rawles Survivalblog.com. Because he also knows his limitations, he solicits subject matter experts to chime in, which allows questionable info to be corrected quickly. His archive of info...

    Got my FIRST 23!

Didn't even realize these existed (23 channel CB's, that is) until about 2 years ago. Getting into CB's in the late '80's, I just figured they ALWAYS had 40 channels! ANYwho... here's a few crappy pics I picked it up for the INCREDIBLE low price of, 'on the house.' Belonged to a...

    Cracking 800mhz on a BC355C

I got this used, to be a mobile in my wife's van, so it's NOT life or death, BUT... Is it POSSIBLE to de-scramble the 800mhz on a Uniden BC355C? It receives those frequencies, but you get the "electronic motorboat," because it can't de-scramble them, like my BCT15X's can. Everyone around here...

    A "whatzit" amp!

So I know it's supposed to be an imitation Palomar, but I have no experience with the REAL thing - much this... "whatzit." A few photos, for clarification; If it LOOK familiar, feel free to sing out with specs, warnings, mfg., details, age - anything ELSE you happen to know about it! I...

UNIDEN PC68XL - the good, the bad, & the ugly!

And BEST of all, YOU get to fill in the blanks! :p So's I picked up a nice, older, Phillipines-made model (like Cobras, I figured Phillipines > Chinese), and am looking for the lowdown on it. Search-fu reveals LOTS of people trying to add channels or power to it - I just plan on sticking it in...
