Due to aged eyes and ahakey hands I am going to do a Mars mod that requires connection a couple pads. What the heck product do I use ( specific please on brand, etc ) and does it require heat to cure, and if so what is the used as a heat source?
Being that the Sirio 2016 has more yet shorter radials, is there any chance this design is using the braid of the coax as part of the ground plane?
If the answer is yes, then would it not be recommended to put a common mode choke at the feed point of the antenna, even though it is mounted to...
Included photos of filter in question and specifications of said filter. Here is the issue. The issue appears on 2 different antennas, but I will use the Sirio Gainmaster antenna for the example of the issue. Keep in mind I tested the common mode filter into a dummy load and the SWR is 1:1 so...
With a Ranger radio with a variable low to high power control on radio, when you adjust the high the power control on board ( VR-15 ) if you set the radio variable knob fully clockwise, and adjust the high power control (VR-15) for a lower dead key, does it drop the dead key and AM peak...
Recently installed a Sirio Gainmaster 64 wave. Just got hit with 70-75mph winds and hung in like a champ.
Bent far over in the wind but did not snap.I believe and always have that it's assembly error that causes the first to second section breaks. May be 2nd section not inserted deep enough...
I always by habit run a quality low pass filter after amplifiers due to being in an urban environment to be neighbor friendly just in case. With a modern HF radio (not a CB or Import radio) is there any reason to run one prior to the amplifier or is the harmonic suppression sufficient from...
Purchased a used but very clean AL-80p and the unit has what looks like nice professional tags under the meters that say.
Under one meter it is tagged:
IG 150ma
IP 400ma
Are these max settings to stay at or below?
Under other meter it is tagged:
ALC140 ( have no idea about this one)
Been...
Don't know why they would but in other amplification of old, tubes had a different audio response then transistors. Maybe it makes no difference in RF amplification
Which Ameritron would be best suited with 10 meter mod if one is looking to keep PEP at no more than 400 watts SSB use only. Looking at new 811 or 811H new vs AL-80B used. Long.Life and low failure is a concern. Can one get a AL-80B down to 500watts pep on 10m with reduced drive from radio...

And many similar, what would one do with such devices?
Anyone remember this antenna? I searched my memory and remember the advertisement for this antenna but I never knew of even one in use in the 70's. Interesting concept and wonder if Avanti acutely sold many. If there was one today I would buy it just to see if the concept acutely worked.

Purchased a new FT-991a and the noise blanker does not touch noise in the AM mode. Other radios reduce noise to a tolerable level, but the yaesu is nothing but 9 pounds of noise when using AM. Works fine other modes and not matter what you adjust on the NB settings it has no effect in the AM...
Verbiage that needs to be outlawed on all radio forums ( or every forum just the same )

I swear I have been through every evolution in DSP
and to say its some great feature? I say whatever!
I find myself turning it off or setting it at it's lowest level because to me it is as irritating as the noise it is suppose to cure. It's just a different version of irritating noise but now...
I understand this is a lower end radio, and not exoercting the world of it, but how usable is the reciever as research says the NB is crap.
Also has anyone played with one on AM and tell me if is usable in that mode of transmission?
Curious if anyone remembers from the 1970's the "BLACK TUBE" that was available to supposedy increase radio output?
I never really knew what this replacement tube did or what increase in Watts out it was capable of, but I remember licensed CB operators sneaking the black tube into their beloved...
