    Motorola Programming Cable RMV2080

Anybody know any programming pinouts, methods, etc for motorola RMV2080 (RMU2080) type radios? 45$ seems a bit steep and I've got a box full other cables.

    UV-5R Flakey PPT Button

Any experiencing with less than excellent push-to-talk button on the UV-5R ? Got one that feels mushy and result in having to press it very hard. Sometime the display lights up but it doesn't transmit. I think there's a clickey button involved. Maybe the switch itself cracked to the board or...

Cross Band Over Heat and Lockup AT-5888UVIII ???

Tried cross band repeat on my tri band last night on a local simplex chat. (was using my HT from the backyard) Worked great for about a 1 minute, had good signal reports, then locked up. The radio had powered itself down, and was really hot. This unit rarely gets more than warm on a simplex...

Cross Band Mobile Repeater Mesh... or Mobile Mess

Been puzzling over why a cross band repeater mesh can't work. Say there's three stations with 2m/440 cross band repeaters. 2 meter xmit at high power, 440 xmit at low power. 440 tone required to recieve. Seems like when more than one repeater station recieves input on 440, that both will...

    Anytone AT-5888UV Resources, Schematics, Tricks

Looking for resources for the Anytone AT-5888UV, schematics, tricks etc. Just picked one up with tri band 2m, 220, 440 and it seems to work pretty good. Wondering if a schematic or service manual has ever surfaced or if any salty individual has figured out the key combo to get into the service...

    10 Meter Aluminum Rotatable Dipole

I'd like to try a 10 meter rotatable horizontal dipole made of aluminum tubing. Based on lack of product availablity, I'm wondering why nobody does this. Is a vertical that much better? I suspended a wire 10 meter dipole between chimney's and it worked well, and picked up very little noise...

    Repeater Circuit

Been experimenting. Anybody familiar with what schematic would be close to what's hidden inside this cheap little Chinese HT repeater box? There's no documentation, and it's glued into plastic. Seems to key mic with zero ohms on the base of the plugs by presence of audio signal. There's a...

Steel Studs vs Wood Stud for Shack

My friend is planning a radio shack addition on the back of his house and was wondering if steel studs could be inferior to wood. Could they pickup and radiate stray RF etc. (I tried to google it, but internet searches are increasingly lacking these days unless one wants to buy something.)

    Lincoln II+ Side Band Distortion

Anybody know of any way to correct side band distortion of close stations in the Lincoln II+? I'm dead on frequency, and far stations sound great. Close stations just sound distorted and turning the gain down doesn't seem to change anything.

    Using H-250 Mic with CB

I'd like to use an H-250 Mic with a CB (Lincoln II+). Not sure if Rx audio is available on pin 4 of the mic cable. Also considering a speaker/earpiece limiter/fader if I need to use the speaker output. Any thoughts or experiences overall. Or guesses of what R values might be needed etc...

President Lincoln II+ SSB poor audio with strong signals

Next trick is figuring out why the mysterious Lincoln II+ has poor audio on strong local SSB signals. It sounds great on distant stations. Before that one guy always chimes in with the obvious, about turning down the gain, that ain't it. There is an adjuster, W6 on the board labeled...

Kenwood TM-261 xmit noise in hi-power mode

My Kenwood TM-261 starting acting up in my usual high power transmit mode last night. I could hear static come from the speaker while transmitting, and it sounded like a digital mode signal to those who heard me transmit. I lowered the power to medium and low, and the problem seems gone, but...

Lincoln II+ Squelch Add-On and NC parts

Lots of parts on the Lincoln II+ schematic are labeled NC and show no value in the parts list. Are they just saving money? Looks like they omitted a transistor, resistor and cap from a feedback circuit to the main audio power op amp. AM squelch is junk on mine. Everything else is pretty...

Is J Pole Truly Omnidirectional Or Not

Was on a 2 meter discussion net recently where they all believed and professed that a J pole antenna is truly omnidirectional. This was about one fella having trouble talking to a far station that everybody else could talk to fine. However I think a Jay pole has 1 or 2 small deep nulls because...
