    Ontario, Canada banning CB's

Just a head's up on that amateur radio operators were removed from the list. You can transmit when driving. It doesn't mention CBers. Having watched the last few weeks, lots of people are still suing their cell phones. It's not often that you get a chance to observe CBers in the middle of a...

    Easy Radio Mount

You could look into something like this. http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045051049054045049050049066045050048050085/Default.aspx In effect, it's a gooseneck that attaches under the seat. You mount the radio on the plate on the other end...

    Easy Radio Mount

I don't know about a Bravada, but can you slide a flat piece of aluminum under the middle part and rest the radio against the cushion? It's accessible yet out of the way.

    Easy Radio Mount

The picture quality isn't the best but you get the idea. I got a scrap piece of aluminum 5 inches wide by 16 inches long and bent it into an L shape. It's pulled away from the seat so that you can see it better. After I took the picture I slid it back. The radio mount is bolted to the...

When did Yaesu start making radios in China?

I'm not surprised either. More and more stuff will be made there. In 1992, I paid $400 for my 2400. All those years later and the price i less than half - new. Technology has a role in the price drop, but you can bet that if it was made in Japan, the price would have been higher. Thanks for...

When did Yaesu start making radios in China?

This is a serious question. The last new amateur radio that I bought was 16 years ago. A couple of days back, I bought an FT-1900R. For the few that do not know, it is an inexpensive 2 meter radio that is half the size of the FT-2400 it replaced. It bought so I could use it in the car or...

Programming an HT using your computer

Thanks for pointing out that website. I've downloaded the program and will be emailing some questions about the equipment. From what I've read at eham, it's easier to enter freqs and settings into a program rather than mess with the keypad.

    Bobby and the Martians

Bobby and the Martians copyright 2008 - Stephen Redgwell (That's me) "Hey Bob, is that a ham radio?" asked Doug's next door neighbour, as he walked into his buddy's garage. "It sure is Doug. This was my first transmitter." Bob McDonald held up an old metal box with a big dial and some knobs on...

    yaesu 1802M

Hey, relax. That's my mistake and wasn't meant to be funny. I just finished looking at an HT thread with a response written by the same guy that posted this.

A small 3 or 5 amp supply will power it with no problems.

    While cleaning up my office...

Everything arrived in the mail yesterday. I cannot hit any repeaters from where I live, at least, not using the ducky. I have a discone however and it has the reach. All is well. There are only a couple of 70cm repeaters around, so I think I'll put this in the truck as a walk around radio...

    VE7KFM:Victim or physcopath?

I'll wait for the synopsis or watch CNN for the story about the survivor. That's way too intense for me.

    Earthquake in SoCal

Scary. I used to go to Moffat and San Diego quite a bit in the 1990s with the air force. I was on the bridge from Oakland to SF six weeks before it collapsed. One particular trip, we were in our hotel just off I 101 and had a 5 point something earthquake at about 2 in the morning. I...

    Mic for a RCI-2950

How's the gain on your radio? I ask because I'd prefer a noise cancelling mic and let the mic gain do the rest. Mine is almost always used on SSB. Steve :)

    While cleaning up my office...

Have no fear. I've been doing this for a long time. The scanner antenna was put on to check if it could hear anything. The order that I placed last Friday was filled and either went out Saturday morning or will go out tomorrow morning. It will only take a couple of days to get here.

    While cleaning up my office...

I cleaned it up and ordered a new ducky, mic and DC power cord. With taxes and shipping, the damage came to a little over $80. I ordered everything online and laughed when I realized that I only paid $100 for it new. The buttons needed work. They hadn't been played with for a few years and...

    While cleaning up my office...

I'll try and locate a battery pack for it. If memory serves, some Icom stuff fits on to this radio but I believe that the manufacturer was Maxon. The speaker mic that MFJ recommended is built for Icom radios. Steve :)
