Ok gentleman let's have it!!!! Price aside I can't decide between the two. I am also curious as to freq coverage and how hard it is to get seamless freq.coverage especially 10, 11 and 12 meters. Thanks for you advide in advance!!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">

Hey Moose!

If these are your choices, then the IC706mkIIG is THE ONE! Good audio DSP, general coverage tx & rx (160m through 6m, 2m, 70cm), 40w AM power (for those 12-*11*-10m excursions!), excellent audio gain (NO AMPLIFIED MIC NEEDED!!), sweet-audio using SSB, FM, & AM.

While it is a bit more pricey than the Alinco, you will have higher-resale when (if) the time comes. Plus...now is a good time to purchase new --- good deals & factory coupons.

Just my opinion...owned one for over a year (until I purchased a Ten Tec OmniVI+ as my fixed-station radio) -- never had a bit of trouble --- and ALWAYS good reports!

Moose -

I've never had one of the Alincos, so can't make a

comparison. I do know that some of the earlier ones

had a problem with the cooling fan. The fan would

make the audio 'warbble' at times, probably due to

where the power for the fan was obtained. The later

ones have been 'fixed' to cure the problem.

OK Moose I have never spent but just a few minutes with the Alinco but this I can tell you: The Alinco doesnt have near the functions that the 706 has. If your buying new the 706 will be of greater worth than the Alinco. The DSP in the 706 is a wondrful thing you will be pleasantly surpised at how much intermod and heterodyne that DSP will remove from very busy frequencies. I own the older 706 without it but have many friends with the G models and they swear by them too. I know 3 Hams with Alinco and they all wish they had chosen the 706. (this would answer my question.) Also the 706 has far more expansion possibilities antenna tuners etc. Hope this helps!
