We have some hand held VX 160's Yaesu at work i think they are either 6 or 8 channel. What i want to know what channel can i receive them on with a scanner ? And do they TX on a different Freq then they receive on ? also what is the range on these units ? thanks for all the help.

Depends on what they were set up for. They could be VHF somewhere between 148.000 - 174.000 OR they could be UHF between 450.000 - 485.000 Look at the model #. If it has a V after the 160 it's a VHF unit a U would be a UHF rig. If they are set up for repeater use they will TX on one freq. and RX on another and the off set between the two freq.s will depend on who's/what repeater they are set up for. With the right program software and cable, they can usually be programed to the Ham freq.s

This should let you see what version it is if you can find the complete model # (sometimes it is on the back of the case between battery and radio)vx160 You should be able to pick them up on a regular scanner once you know the freq. range to search.
