Called Bob's CB Shop where I bought the radio from new 2 years ago to inquire about adding extra channels to it and was told Bob doesn't do that anymore. Anybody know a reputable shop that still does that? I'd love to do that Troy Radio VFO mod to it but sending it to Texas is costly and slightly risky.

Thanks for the thoughts, maybe I'll call the two places tomorrow. I've seen R&Rs website before but never herd much about them. Did you ever deal with their work before ?
I have not personally had any work done there. Some of the locals here have, and seem to be satisfied with the work done. Dustin is well known throughout the country for his comp tuned Cobra 29 radios, for what that's worth.

Well that is better than a wild shot in the dark. Usually if there is bad word it travels loud and clear. I just might call that Troy radio for the heck of it and get a estimate and get a estimate on shipping 2 ways. Get to see if I have to change my pants. LOL

If you do call Troy, let us know what he says. I would love to have him put the VFO in my 2547.

Might take me a while, I already have to be at Walmart 7AM tomorrow to pick something up for my Mom. LOL Haven't even got to sleep and tomorrows already being planned for me. Boy for a retired guy this old buzzard is on the move. LOL Gotta cut some more garage firewood also before snowfly because my motorcycle sets out there waiting for front and back tire changes also.

The extra channel mod for the 2547 is deceptively simple. Cut two wires, insert a switch in the cut of each wire.

Does require routine precautions, like disconnecting EVERYTHING from the radio before poking a soldering iron into it.

The built-in counter makes the simple two-switch mod useable. Frequencies will jump around out of sequence, but having a frequency display mostly makes up for it.

And a DDS is a world beyond the two-switch mode. Both in the cost and in the result it offers.

These work great. I bought a few when RF Parts still had them in 2008 or so, I put a Viagra A "Blue Dot" board in my PC-122. Yes, it works there, too.
"Blue Dot" has 40 up, 40 down, I have a "Green Dot", and a "Red Dot", one goes up 40/80 and the other goes down 40/80. I have a few "Blue Dot" boards, 1 "Red Dot" and 1 "Green Dot".

I also have a Viagra B board, that uses an MC145106DM (SMT) PLL to do the mixing.

I bought them for samples when I was going to start working on radios again, until one of the local riff-raffs got into a war with me and my friends, so I shut the whole radio repair service idea back down.

Ham radio operators (VHF/UHF) should pay attention to enhanced radio propagation paths throughout the middle latitudes and equatorial region, a common occurrence following such events. :coffee: (y)

Had "Aurora" propagation on CW/SSB on 6m last evening. (300-700m range here) The 2m guys had lots of Ducting/TROPO between the East Coast and Gulf Coast op's, even early today.
